Hospital to get more outdoor units for dialysis

More mobile medical units have been approved for Ramsey Cottage Hospital to plug the "substantial gap" in renal services during extensive renovation works.

Manx Care said that local dialysis provision had been "significantly impacted," for patients requiring "regular and life-sustaining" treatment.

The new units will be located beside the hospital car park, and will be fully equipped to support the continuation of services.

Approving the application, chairman of the planning committee Rob Callister MHK, said that ultimately these services should be within the hospital, and he was disappointed to have to install a temporary unit.

A ward in the hospital closed in October 2025, amidst pest control issues. Closures were extended to the minor injuries unit, and several services were relocated to Nobles Hospital.

The need for extensive refurbishment at the hospital, also led to to the NHS dental unit being relocated to Douglas.

Those dental services were suspended in April by provider Smile Dental, which said it would resume services once facilities became available again at the Ramsey hospital.

Earlier this month, Manx Care was given planning approval for a temporary outdoor dental unit, in the car park of Ramsey Cottage Hospital. Manx Care has yet to confirm who will be providing these services.
