Windows 11 2025 Update (25H2) is now available, Here's what's new

Today, Microsoft announced the general availability of Windows 11 25H2, also known as Windows 11 2025 Update.

Windows 11 25H2 is a minor update, and it shares the same platform release as Windows 11 24H2, which means both versions will get the same cumulative updates, features and fixes every month.

Windows 11 25H2 is installed on version 24H2 through enablement packages (eKB), which is less than 200kb in size.

Microsoft describes eKB as an update package that helps update a device to the next version of Windows with a single restart that reduces downtime.

However, remember that most users will not see the update today, as Microsoft says the update is being gradually rolled out around the world.

If you're still on Windows 11 23H2 for some reason, you'll not get an eKB. Instead, you'll get a full OS swap, similar to Windows 11 24H2.

To install Windows 11 25H2 right now, you can download the Installation Assistant.

Or you can wait until October 14, 2025 when the update will become available via Windows Server Update Services (WSUS).

What to expect from Windows 11 25H2?

In a blog post, Microsoft noted that Windows 11 25H2 comes with better vulnerability detection. It also noted that Windows 11 25H2 enables "AI assisted secure coding," but Microsoft won't explain what it really means.

"Version 25H2 includes significant advancements in build and runtime vulnerability detection, coupled with AI-assisted secure coding," the company noted.

For enterprises, Windows 11 2025 Update brings Wi-Fi 7 and adds an optional feature that lets you remove select pre-installed Microsoft Store apps via Group Policy.

Windows 11 25H2 does not come with new features or exciting changes for consumers, but it removes PowerShell 2.0 and Windows Management Instrumentation command-line (WMIC).

Another notable change is that it'll reset the support lifecycles.

This means you'll get another 36-month support lifecycle for Enterprise and Education editions and the 24-month lifecycle for Pro, Pro Education, and Pro for Workstation editions.

For consumers, Windows 11 25H2 support ends in October 2027.
