New build works but cameras duplicated

Trying motion for the first time.
Just built motion 4.7.1-1 on ubuntu server 24.04.3 amd64.
Set up /etc/motion/motion.conf to point to 2 cameraX.conf files in /etc/motion/cameras/
Cameras are both rtsp - a new Reolink RLC-810A and an old Unifi UVC G3.

Port 8080 shows video from both cameras - twice - so 4 views instead of two ?!?.
Streams can be seen at port 8081/1 and 8081/2 with duplicates at 8081/3 and 8081/4.
I'm unable to see why these cameras are duplicated. Only possible clue in log is:
[0:motion] [ERR] [ALL] [Apr 19 12:57:03] motion_camera_ids: Camara IDs are not unique or have values over 32,000. Falling back to thread numbers
But the camera conf files do specify camera_id 101 and camera_id 102 respectively.

I can't begin to guess why this occurs. Does anyone have any experience of this happening?

You have defined your cameras two times:

camera /etc/motion/cameras/camera1.conf
camera /etc/motion/cameras/camera2.conf
camera_dir /etc/motion/cameras

Leave only one: either per-camera files, or the dir
