Dayton Elementary School teacher arrested for alleged sexual abuse of students
DAYTON, Nev. (KOLO) - A teacher at Dayton Elementary School has been arrested after police say he was sexually abusing two former elementary school students.
40-year-old Shaun Sanchez was arrested on Wednesday.
The investigation into Sanchez began in February of this year when a former student reported that Sanchez had sexually abused him when he was a student at the school.
During the investigation, another former student who independently made similar accusations against Sanchez was identified.
Sanchez was booked into the Lyon County Jail on three charges of lewdness with a child under the age of 14 and had his bail set at $300,000.
The Lyon County School District released a statement in the aftermath of the arrest of Sanchez, saying:
“Following recent action by law enforcement, Lyon County School District is addressing criminal charges filed against an employee assigned to Dayton Elementary School. We take these allegations very seriously; this egregious behavior is in complete conflict with the manner in which we treat students and the morals, values, and professional conduct standards of the Lyon CSD.
In accordance with personnel procedures and NRS, the staff member is currently suspended from employment with the LCSD. The LCSD will comply fully with state licensing notification requirements and continues to assist the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office in its work.
Because this is an active law enforcement matter and a confidential personnel issue, further details cannot be released by the district. Please contact the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office for updates regarding the investigation.
