Include avatar_seed in user search results for mention autocomplete

Summary

The user search endpoints used by the mention feature (GET /profile/search and GET /messages/search) return only { uid, username } per result. They omit avatar_seed, so a client cannot render the user's real profile avatar in a mention autocomplete without making additional heavy calls.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. GET /profile/search?q=reto returns:

    { "results": [ { "uid": "...", "username": "retoor" }, ... ] }

    No avatar_seed field.

  2. The web app's mention dropdown (MentionInput.js) therefore builds the avatar from the username alone:

    `/avatar/multiavatar/${encodeURIComponent(username)}?size=${size}`

    Avatar.imgElement(r.username).

  3. For users who have a custom avatar_seed UUID (most active users), the avatar shown in the mention dropdown is a username-seeded Multiavatar that is NOT the user's real profile avatar. Verified byte-for-byte: /avatar/multiavatar/{seed} and /avatar/multiavatar/{username} return different images for such users. Users without a custom seed (e.g. snek, donkulatrix) render correctly because their seed equals their username.

  4. Server-rendered surfaces (feed, profiles, comments) use the real seed: /avatar/multiavatar/{avatar_seed}?size=N. The only way for a client to obtain avatar_seed today is GET /profile/{username} (heavy: returns posts, badges, media) or caching author objects from feed/notification payloads.

Expected Behaviour

  • Both GET /profile/search and GET /messages/search should include avatar_seed in each result:
    { "results": [ { "uid": "...", "username": "retoor", "avatar_seed": "019f89d3-..." } ] }
  • The web mention dropdown should use the seed when present (fall back to username when null), so the dropdown avatar matches the user's real profile avatar.
  • Third-party clients (native iOS app) can then render the real avatar with zero extra calls: /avatar/multiavatar/{avatar_seed}?size=N.

Actual Behaviour

  • The search endpoints omit avatar_seed.
  • The mention dropdown renders a username-seeded Multiavatar instead of the user's real profile avatar for users with a custom seed.
  • Clients must make an additional heavy GET /profile/{username} call or rely on cached author objects to obtain the real seed.

Environment

Not provided. Additional context from report: a native iOS client is being built against this API; the mention feature cannot show correct profile pictures without either this fix or a heavy per-result profile fetch.

Acceptance criteria from report:

  • avatar_seed (nullable) present in every result of both search endpoints.
  • Web mention dropdown renders the real avatar.
  • No additional API round-trips needed per mention suggestion.

Fixed: the user search endpoints used by mention autocomplete now include the avatar seed in their results, so custom avatars render correctly in the mention dropdown. Closing as resolved.
