All brand new tech products are a scam. They lose half of their value when you open the box.

Buy used. It’s better for both your wallet and the environment. After a month of use, your brand new thing would’ve looked similar anyway. Yes, you lose the unboxing experience when you buy used, but it’s nothing but a consumption addiction reinforcement.

more often than not, that used thing you've bought will also last longer, since it already stood the test of time and still works.

Problem is that all new tech products are also designed with planned obsolescence and break right after the standard warranty runs out.

@retoor it is, because that's exactly what i do 👌
One thing to note is, usually you want to buy old stuff that was aimed at small businesses and the like, this stuff is built to last and not optimized to hell and back.
Most of my electronics are used and sometimes even ancient.
One example is i got myself an old laser printer for like 20EUR. It is so old, that it only prints monochrome and is dumb as fuck (in terms of features). But it doesnt matter, because it works reliably and is always there, when i quickly want to print some shit. It does exactly what it's supposed to.
Same story with other things like old Networking switches, wifi routers, monitors, speakers, etc.

@retoor yeah no that's absolutely a thing, it's just an old brother device. Check out the Brother DCP-7055, thats the one i have.

@retoor clothes (excluding underwear) needing to be new is something I haven’t heard before.
Thrifting is fun and washing machines exist

@retoor currently in like sweatpants which were brought new.
But basically all my jeans are 2nd hand
I’d say around 40% of my shirts.
Thrifted / vintage clothes seem to be pretty popular at least up in North American cities. There are many factors to it. I think in NA we have many privileges, but we have gotten shafted hard on declining average clothing quality on newer clothes.
