A major data breach has exposed the personal information of over 153 million Americans and Canadians, with their digital driver's license scans being sold on a dark web marketplace called Nexus. The breach affects both ordinary citizens and high-profile figures, including U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. The leaked data includes high-resolution images of identification documents, along with infrared and ultraviolet scans. The source appears to be IDScan.net, a Louisiana-based identity verification company whose scanning systems are commonly used at car rental agencies, cannabis shops, and other businesses for age verification. The leaked information could enable identity theft, fraudulent bank account creation, and credit line applications. Security experts warn that unlike passwords, biometric data and document details cannot be easily changed. The FBI's New Orleans field office has launched an official investigation into the breach.
