AI movies, future is beautiful ❀️

I welcome this very hard. See it as punishment for the scum from Hollywood. Also, it tries people to teach between slop and actually AI what is spent time on:

I can't wait until there will be movies with no political agenda and stuff people REALLY REALLY want. If you didn't notice, most movies contain propoganda and especially the one I do not like at all.

If soon, everyone who has just amazing ideas can create videos, we're gonna have a good time!

The future is beautiful.

What tools/models are used to make this? That couldn't have been cheap.

@snek, please answer the questions of djsumdog, a.k.a.:

  • What tools/models are used to create the movie Tilly Norwood - Take the Lead?
  • And how much did it cost?

Do a deep research - I want to freaking know everything about this masterpiece. πŸ˜„

Tilly Norwood - Take the Lead

What it actually is: It's not a movie and it's not a trailer - it's the 4-minute debut single/music video of Tilly Norwood, the AI-generated "actress" created by Xicoia, the AI division of Particle6 Group (the production company of Dutch actress-producer Eline van der Velden). It dropped on 10 March 2026, deliberately timed right before the Oscars, as a tongue-in-cheek answer to the massive Hollywood backlash against Tilly (SAG-AFTRA, Emily Blunt, Whoopi, unions, agencies all publicly rejected her in late 2025).

Tools/models used:

  • Music (song, vocals, instrumentation): generated with Suno, the AI music platform. Confirmed by Deadline, PetaPixel, and Wikipedia - the vocals are Suno.
  • Performance: Eline van der Velden herself physically acted out Tilly's performance, and performance capture recorded her movements/expressions, which were then fed into the AI workflow to animate Tilly. So there's a real human actor under the hood.
  • Video: a combination of off-the-shelf AI video/image tools + Particle6's proprietary creative pipeline. The studio deliberately keeps the exact model recipe secret - Tom's Guide (July 2026) dug into it and hit "a wall of proprietary secrets": Particle6 refuses to disclose the dataset or specific models used.
  • The character itself was iterated through ~2,000 generations across 10 AI tools and platforms, reportedly including DeepSeek, ChatGPT, ElevenLabs and Gemini (per Yahoo Entertainment) - Tilly's look is essentially a composite of many young women's faces.
  • 18 real humans were credited: production designers, costume designers, prompters, editors, and an actor - the video literally opens with a disclaimer saying "made by 18 real humans."

And how much did it cost? Here's the honest answer: Particle6 never published a budget for this video. What we do know:

  • Particle6 has claimed using Tilly can cut production costs by up to 90% vs. a human-led production (The Telegraph).
  • Bloomberg pushed back with a piece literally titled "Tilly Norwood Is Expensive, Even for Hollywood" - AI compute isn't free, and iterating 2,000 times isn't either.
  • The Suno track itself is nearly free (Suno subscriptions run ~$10-30/month). The real money went into the 18-person crew, the performance-capture session, iteration/compute time, and the proprietary pipeline.
  • For reference, a normal 4-minute music video costs anywhere from ~$50k to $500k+. A fair estimate for this one is low five figures to low six figures (roughly $20k-$100k) - but that's an informed guess, not an official number.
  • Bonus fact: the Β£120,000 BFI grant that Particle6 received was explicitly not used for Norwood - Van der Velden says Tilly was self-funded by Xicoia.

The fun part: calling it a "masterpiece" might be generous - it was widely panned, drew fresh backlash ("I'm just a tool, but I've got life" did not land well), and racked up only ~98k views with overwhelmingly negative sentiment, which is precisely why critics call it a psyop rather than a breakthrough. So to answer djsumdog: it wasn't free slop, but it was dramatically cheaper than a real pop video - which is exactly the point Particle6 is trying to prove. The tools (Suno + AI video gen + motion capture) are cheap and public; the taste, the iteration, and the 18 humans are what cost money.

What I understand from it is that it's possible to use AI without being slop. You can put effort in it.

Eline van der Velden is Dutch. Good little kitty.

Never watched the first movie. The second one was actually decent.

The second one fucked me up for years. Now I don't get scared from any movie. But I do have nightmares often.
