maybe this is the case of: looks better > works better, but anyway, double-tapping is a way comfortable on phones and I'm glad for the left side when I'm on pc because it's closer to the menu.

I feel it would be worse for right handed people. You would not be able to scroll as easily with the buttons in the way, and make accidental votes.
