I'd argue that calling people stupid because these refere to the pound symbol a hashtag is pedantic, especially since "hashtag" has multiple names by definition and, through history, was adapted for a number of different uses. For a quick overview see http://dictionary.com/e/octothorpe/

Tbh I dont use Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat and all that other crap and I still refer to the # as hashtag... Or "Gartehag" (swiss german for (garden)fence)

A couple days ago I wrote a little python script and I tried to comment. Not sure if all the other programming languages corrupted my memory but I was sure you could comment with // in python. Has been 5 years since I really did anything with it tho
