Ok, so here's a few questions:
What's the most important things to you out of the following:
Good camera
SD card slot
Frequent updates
Battery life
Current Android version
Headphone jack
Storage/RAM
Screen size -
qdsp1317498y@Stuxnet I would say headphone jack and storage. Updates don’t really matter as I would probably just put a custom rom on it anyway. One thing I did really like about the iPhone 6s was the screen size. Most modern phones are way too big. -
ODXT32528yOnePlus phones give you relatively high specs per price. Maybe a OnePlus 2, or like @fuck2code said.
If not, then you could use this:

@Alice i spent at least 10 felt hours searching through your comment history to find that comment. duude could you please be a bit more inactive on devrant?

qdsp1317498yiOS is honestly so disappointing. It’s nice and fast, but it’s like a dumbed down version of Android for babies and you can do very little with it. Can’t even jailbreak because it’s stuck on the latest iOS version. -
@qdsp13 Would you prefer lots of storage or a decent amount of storage with an SD card?
Either way, if you don't care about updates, then perhaps a Moto G6? It's fixing to be released and it's a solid priced device running near stock Android. The spec to price ratio is usually top of the line.
I've got the G5 plus. Everything is fine aside from the Vibrate died a few days ago and the (non-security) updates are non-existent. (Also realized the vibrate may be on me. I saw the hardware for it is on the corner and I've dropped it on the same corner more than once. So oops lol) -
xperia z5 compact
i am still so happy with it i bought it again for my wife a few weeks ago and hope mine will last for a few more years
and fits small hands... -
@RantSomeWhere Solid phones. Occasionally the fingerprint reader is slow as fuck and locks me out, but they're pretty solid. Fast charging is a nice feature.
Don't expect a lot out of the camera. And the microphone is sensitive as fuck. I recorded a crowd at a basketball game and it was super ear rapey. -
@AlpineLinnix ditto! Best phone I ever had.. dont plan on switching any time soon.. and battery lasts and lasts while other people.around me cry in low battery agony!

Got myself a S7 lately...bought it a bit scrambled for under 100€...best budget phone you can find right now...cuz best camera
-
One plus is great if you like a creap phone with high specs and stock Android look, also if you like getting free stuff... my one plus 3 got a new update yesterday, it added the latest security patch and added face onlock feature
-
Nitwix898yMaybe it is a bit above your budget but I would definitely look at the new nokia phones with android one like the new Nokia 6
https://nokia.com/phones/nokia-6/
I got the Nokia 7 plus a few days ago and I'm really happy with it, it has great value for money. -
Xiaomi stuff is really good. And cheap. And the design is just stolen from Apple.
[written on xiaomi mi5s plus :p] -
qdsp1317498y@Emphiliis Is it easy to root/put custom roms on Xiaomi phones though? I heard they aren't very good about letting you unlock your bootloader -
It is really easy. It just sounds complex:
Ger an account, get the unlock key (maybe you have to write a message in a extra Form) and then unlock with the tool..
Well it is still easier that Samsungs ODIN stuff.
I did not try custom Roms, because I like miui. But it should work.
And with a custom recovery you can do almost everything.

qdsp1317498yLooked a bit, and found the Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017). I don't really like Samsung, but this phone ticks all the boxes for me. (OLED, more than 16gb storage, headphone jack, fairly recent, easy to root) Anyone have any comment on it?

Bought an iPhone a few weeks ago, and I’ve already decided that I hate it. Any recommendations on an android phone for ~€200? (used or new)
