Terminator is nice, I personally use urxvt.

You don't need tabs if you use a terminal multiplexer like tmux, check it out, it's really worth it!

Can recommend terminator from experience, I personally use termite (no tabs) on my own machines now.

As others have mentioned, terminator is great and easy to get the tabs going.

I second tmux as a replacement for tabs, but even if you get a tabbing terminal check it out.
