retoor278hWe need more like you. Share us your wisdom! You seem so sophisticated. Even cooler, your source code is open source & plug and play? That's awesome.

I‘m playing with an idea in my head for months now to also make a devrant backend clone using the exact same api to be compatible.
To be able to switch to it when devrant shuts down.
But I‘m afraid that‘s unrealistic. When devrant shuts down, maybe the joyrant users will be able to continue after I make the change, but android and web user will need to know about the new backend and would need to make the switch for some unofficial web version and android version.
Also, users will need to create a new account again and also lose all of their rants and comments. I know there are community projects which do backups but it would still require some work to import all of this and make it work.
This is holding me back. -
@Lensflare imo the current api ir too rigid and riddled with weird params. How about an adapter for the current dR with a proper rest api? And point jR to that adapter? And once dR shuts down - just switch to the new BE in your adapter? Would be a seamless xp for app users + you can serve from both BEs simultaneously, verifying your dR dump

I agree
The adapter thing is a good idea but that‘s even more work 😅
Also, it can’t be completely seamless because I can‘t migrate the user accounts. -
@Lensflare why not? You can't migrate secrets/sessions, sure, but profile and user data - why not?
+ if you proxy requests, you get to keep their sessions as you can also have a unified auth adapter -
@whimsical maybe, but I‘m not experienced with proper prompting and I kind of want to do it myself (if and when I want to do it at all)
Maybe I‘d use AI for some specific tedious tasks like creating db schemas and queries. -
retoor274h@Lensflare sooner or later, it will be expected from you anyway :). I could write a book about prompting now. But every LLM needs to be prompted different. At GPT you have to give some pushes to get what you want. With claude you need to prompt to do literally what you say, nothing more, nothing less :P Else it will even generate a .gitignore file on your expense :P Fuck dat.

@retoor have you considered actually writing a book about it? With the current hype it could probably make you rich.
Or even better: With your experience you can make AI write the book for you.
