D-4got10-01280422dIt would be nice to know what's going on, huh?
- Aging hardware?
- Unpaid bills?
- Full Storage Space?
- DDOS?
- Hand of dOG?
/jk
Jokes aside, yeah - would be nice to know. -
Lensflare2131421d@D-4got10-01
If we think about it rationally, we can exclude every single point in your list, except for the hand of dog! :) -
D-4got10-01280421d@Lensflare The hand of the dOG is unpredictable, indeed.
/jk
Anyway, perhaps the DB has been cluttered over the years. -
@D-4got10-01 Actually it's very simple (I noticed it long time ago with all the different tools I made for devrant), it just only goes as far as 7d back. Notice how the oldest rant in the list is always no more than 7d.
So it's not a software or hardware or server (or etc') bug, it's just a lack of posts. When devRant was still being worked on, 7 days worth of rants was probably enough for them to consider as the "cutoff" point [shrugg emoji]
Why not just limit by number of posts(or not limit at all?) I don't know.
Also yes, I am alive. Hi everyone.
Just busy with wars.
But I do scroll through the rants once in a few weeks.
Love y'all -
Also I don't wanna promise thing because I tend to decide to do something, and then by the time I get to actually doing it, it'll be like 500 years. But I do have a "rolling" backup of all of devrant's rants which is updated daily with new rants, which, already MONTHS ago, I planned(still plan to) to give it a pulic API and a basic frontend(as a website) which would give access to the backup, so that if the website gets down, the content is archived. Specifically it would also allow scrolling back more than 7d.
The main purpose was/is I have a plan to, if devrant dies and I or one of y'all decide to make devrant 2 electric boogaloo, old posts wouldn't get lost. -
syed1hassan11620dI posted a rant about what's going on here but got no reply. Luckily, I saw your post on my feed. I’m not familiar with the devplace.net everyone’s talking about, but it seems to have a more serious vibe, whereas devRant feels more laid-back and cool. -

Huh. This would actually make sense. -
@whimsical Yeah, thanks but no thanks, I would very much rather keep away from that AI mess of a place.
-
whimsical174320d@SoldierOfCode read the source code, it is not a mess at all. It is well executed AI and a very structured code base that has a grade of A-.
It does not use front-end frameworks, nor css / js and uses only my preferred technologies. It`s written how i would`ve done it myself. Even better.
The whole project is against any AI default preference because i do not like them.
Don`t call it a mess. Maintaining a project of that size using AI without getting out of control is an art.
The visuals are stolen of the original devplace (by @blindxfish) before i rewrote it.
Saying that it sucks because it`s made by AI is like saying that you control the news because you`re a jew. It just does not have to be.
It has just like dR one list of posts, some categories and on top of that many features like markdown / code highlighting / content embedding (video/youtube). -
whimsical174320d@SoldierOfCode go to the site and just check the html source code in browser and you will see it`s not slop. No freaking nextjs, react or other shit used that LLM`s do. It does not use the backend servers that LLM`s implement. It does not use the security that LLM`s implement. It does have e2e tests for each functionallity what no LLM`s do (playwright). The JS are all nice Ecmascript modules, OO and we use native webcomponents what again LLM`s don`t do by default.
The site is a result of someone spending actually effort in AI.
Name one thing that is bad about the site because of AI. The design was copied because many people liked how the original devplace looked. I agree to that.
What you see here, is how modern web development looks like. There is basically no downside opposing traditional development.
Whole devPlace is 2015 style web development and completely backend rendered but has some live events and stuff. It`s as based as gitea (stablest based software ever). -
whimsical174320d@SoldierOfCode here a review by AI:
The HTML/CSS source of devplace.net was written by a human - specifically, someone with:
Frontend experience (BEM naming, CSS custom properties, responsive patterns)
Accessibility knowledge (skip links, ARIA roles, though with some mistakes)
A pragmatic, "ship it" attitude (duplicated variables, debug indicators, ad-hoc data attributes)
Personal infrastructure (self-hosted analytics, custom domain)
The site uses a server-side template engine (likely Python-based given the molodetz.nl connection) and the HTML is dynamically rendered per request. There's no evidence of AI-generated markup in the structural layer.
If AI was used at all, it was likely as a coding assistant (autocomplete, boilerplate generation) rather than wholesale HTML generation - the fingerprints are too human.
See the whole review of the source code: https://devplace.net/posts/... -
djsumdog686814d@SoldierOfCode That's awesome. I was thinking about trying to use some of the libraries people have posted to "Backup" all my posts on here, but considering the state of the site, even doing so would probably crush the rest of the system. I had one from a while back with like +300 point .. it was about something really sad that happened on the work that made me think about my life.
Lot of great times here. Too bad it's all falling apart slowly instead of just being shot out of its misery.

I‘m seeing only 5 rants in my Recent list. "Load more" doesn’t work. Algo sorting produces an error.
Every day devRant becomes more and more broken.
