I’m just curious, how relevant is slack in the workplace? And is it enjoyable to use or awful like Skype

it's relevant.
I have yet to find a big company where there isn't at least some tech savy folks using it inside a business divisions. Mostly using the free tier acount. The most powerful feature is the use of apis and webhooks and the integration with automation services like zapier and iftt.

@heyheni if I have to use it I’d prob have some fun and make a bot for automation or sumn. I hear slack is a lot like discord

the best free open source alternative to slack is probably www.rocket.chat

It doesn't replace IRC for my workplace.

Slack is pretty nice.

They keep breaking notifications, though.
And their new icon is ugly.
