This idea has been bounced around in the Linux community a lot. To my knowledge there is no hope for doing it on android but possible on other flavours of Linux.

@hidden Samsung is actively working on it. It's called dex. The problem is that it only works on newer Samsung flagships.
Part of the problem is they don't market it....at all. -

@inhamul I've had the last 4 Samsung phones and this latest one (10) was the first time anyone mentioned this feature. They're so busy touting the camera and how great it is (I don't care) that no one bothers to see what features I care about when buying the phone.
I've used it a few times and I like it, but I'm rarely in a situation where I have an HDMI display and not a computer.

I have an idea for Android desktop. I was wondering if it would be possible to build the open source Android and chrome os code into one entity and then have them both installed on your phone.
Basically when using phone the user would use Android, and when an HDMI connection is detected, it launches chrome os on the external display.
Is this possible? I know Android has an HDMI connection event hidden in their API. I'm just unsure if the kernels will play nicely together.
