Today I had what might have been my worst job interview to date. It had many different technical, cultural, and business red flags. One that really stuck out to me was when I asked my interviewer why he loves his job, he went on about how great the benefits and events are. Not a single word about the work he does or his teammates. A younger me would have seen this as an opportunity to put in some hard work and contribute to something great. Older me knows to avoid this dumpster fire like the goddamn plague.

All those great events and such can be a cover-up/apology/excuse for how shitty you're treated.

This company has a relationship with my uni where they get a few of us each summer to do a few month long internship and all. One thing they kept harping on is their desire that everyone contributes to some sort of philanthropy groups and shit.

Like I'm all for us being better people, but that's not something I'm tryna have to do on top of work a full job. Now if we're getting paid time off to do this, that's one thing (and to be fair, I think this was the situation, but we had just eaten lunch and I was zoning out).

Honestly I want places to shoot it straight with us more often than they do.

@electrineer I actually have a phone call with the recruiter tomorrow about how it went. I'm not sure how to professionally describe how I feel about it.
