After using linux as the main os for the last two weeks, here are the biggest drawbacks of linux in my opinion.

1. AMD hybird apus are not supported by linux kernal and it's very lousy.

2. Cannot do any graphics related work without having my screen going black several times.

3. Using dual screen is not reliable, and black screen occurs in one or both screens.

4. The computer goes crazy after waking up from suspend mode and gets overheated!

5. Kernal updates! Is much worse than Windows updates. At least after the painful windows update restart you know everything will be ok, but with linux good luck!!!

6. Realtek Wifi dongles still suffering since 2010.

In my opinion, if you are going to use linux for the first time make sure your hardware is compatible with linux, else be ready for a fight of unstable hardware problems.

Just out of curiosity which distro did you try?

@ryanmhoffman I tried all these three Opensuse leap 42.2, Linux mint 18.1 cinamon and ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS.

@rtannerf agreed. I've always had good experiences with Linux on HP hardware.

    Dell likes linux too

For me the biggest drawback is the file managers.

I have been using Directory Opus for 5-10 years now and everything else feels like a big pile of shit.
Even the fucking Windows Explorer, which I hate, is better than anything Linux has to offer (that I have seen).

    Thanks for the heads up!

I installed mint 18.1 on my laptop and I experience the weird problem when my laptop wakes up where it's either stuck on the screen saver or just black screen which leads to a power off/on solution.

Not sure what I did to get to this though I just browsed through the screen savers and pick a stick man juggling knives, with some sort of counter which eventually causes him to have thousands of knives :/

@nickpapoutsis Krusader is nice, especially if you're used to TotalCommander on Windows.

But file managers are really a problem, mostly because nearly all of them are bundled with a special desktop environment and can't be fully used with other desktop environments

@nickpapoutsis try pantheon-files, its kind of a cheap knockoff of osx file manager but really nice at the same time ;)

@apisarenco AMD apus are not supported by linux yet, that's what I found on the forum.

You didn't face any problems because your hardware is compatible with linux!!!

"Company is hard at word to tackle them"
Really???? Heard of x.org? And wayland? And how long it took from them to make the change?

@apisarenco So if one apu works from a group, it means the whole group is supported?

Also they didn't do any graphics related benchmarks!!!!!

I had a dream last night that might laptop updated and destroyed my Linux partition, but then I remembered grub recovery on a usb/cd, honestly not sure why I had this dream I don't even use mint that much lol.

I did spend some time troubleshooting my WiFi adapter and GPU issues when I first installed it lol

I really hate autocorrect on my phone :/ my*

So I tried fixing the black screen after my screen goes to sleep on my laptop by installing the recommended graphics driver, which somehow disabled my WiFi adapter lol, now I'm using the Ethernet cable to download the third option for my graphics card, let's hope nothing else blows up lol
