Very true. Our previous CTO wouldnt help people install office or log in to the internet saying it's not his job. I thought it was rude. Now, after being the stupid nice guy to help do stuff like that (i am a dev), am the got to guy when the net fails, when they need triple power plugs or to install a &$#@ ass program. I am probably better know for that than for developing.

The other guy was right. Each to it's own or we loose identity.

Sadly i had too many examples to choose from and couldn't decide which was the worst of them.

As a developer who has lead both systems programming and webdev teams, the phrase I say most often is "Sorry, I'm not a very technical person".

Most of my family still thinks I'm an analytical chemist (I used to be). I got very good at acting like I have no idea how my own smartphone works, and I still pretend to not understand remote controls and microwaves when others are around.

We have a small office with a single WiFi router being accessed by everyone, sometimes you're not able to connect to it (Still no idea as to why it happens), but I offered to help someone do it once and now I am the go-to guy for everything!
From setting up new laptops to installing Chrome !
I wish they would atleast try to do it themselves first.
Sometimes I would be in the middle of my work with full concentration, which would've been lost by the time I get back to it.

My brother told his friends I am programmer. Now I am tech support for half of his class. I have to say I don't understand anything besides programming to get rid of them...

@MathewTG Are you in a building? Scan for the frequency channels that other wirelesses use, and set yours to the least used one. Theres also other settings that can help.

@MathewTG could be user limit. Some routers only allow X users at the same time. Also could be IP polling. You might have the DHCP to only use Y address, see ifyou can increase the interval.

Or get a new router. Or if you have admin access to the router, assign a fixed IP to your machine with infinite lease time and tell the others to screw themselves.
