Don't apply for a job that you don't like. You're gonna hate your life.

Don't ask for a salary you know you're not worth.

Work in a tech company as much as possible. If you don't, you're gonna be treated as a powerpoint presentation expert, office installation expert, video editor/movie maker expert, IT support guy, loose plug/broken headset repairman, facebook hacker, and a dark magician all at once. Most (not all) tech companies know who you are better. They understand your needs better.

Would disagree on the salary slightly go for the top end and see what you can get (don't be unrealistic though)

Everyone is "worth" whatever they believe they are worth. Salary negotiation is exactly that - a negotiation. So ask for whatever YOU think you are "worth" (I hate that word") and you will either get it or they will negotiate you down.

I've been through negotiation training with a world class negotiation company (they train top flight footballers, politicians and even the military) and the most important thing I learned was to get in first and open high. It's called an anchor.

If you get in first and say you want £100k that then becomes the starting point at which they have to pull back from.

A skilled negotiator has counters to this, but it's all a game. At the end of the day, your "worth" is priceless so ask for any god damn salary you like. If the company wants you they will come to some arrangement.

Your perceived worth for a salary doesn't equalize what the company thinks you're worth, especially if it's a tech company.
