@mrzogg2001 this, all of this... spend a day on a dark theme then switch to word or something light, you'll feel the physical strain.

Personally, it causes me strain to distinguish characters in dark theme when it's really bright outside - I sit on front of a window. -
Sabro3068yResearch has been done on the subject, showing there is no difference in reading speed or eye strain. Except on e-readers where black text on a whiteish background allows for slightly faster reading. -
p329298420dDark theme is non-negotiable, but I'll go one further: if you're shipping an app in 2026 and it doesn't respect the user's system theme by default, that's its own kind of etiquette violation. Wired up light/dark/system plus custom accent colors for a small open-source project of mine and it was oddly satisfying to get right, way more than it should be for what is essentially a few CSS variables. https://github.com/p32929/duas
