Hundreds take to the streets in Carson City protesting Trump, DOGE

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - Hundreds of protesters took to the streets in front of the state capitol in Carson City on Monday, using Presidents Day to speak out against the current administration.

“I think this country is facing a grave constitutional crisis,” said Shane Scott who came out to protest. “We have an unelected billionaire dismantling the federal government.”

Monday’s rally was part of a national movement, called “50 protests, 50 states, 1 movement.”

“I am outraged by the criminal lack of focus on our constitution, and the sledgehammer on important programs,” said Jeanne Terrell of Reno.

The organized movement is response to what organizers describe as “the anti-democratic and illegal actions” of the Trump administration, with Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency getting a lot of the attention.

And while the anti-Trump sentiment was strong, democrats still hold their own party accountable for the 2024 election.

“Democrats ran a cowardly campaign,” Scott emphasized. “We changed horses in the middle of the race. I wish that Biden hadn’t bungled that debate or let someone else run all along.”

The protest began at noon and continued for several hours along Carson Street.
