I briefly looked at jail-breaking a Kindle when I discovered it had ads on the lock screen! ๐ก

..but I didn't want to mess with or support that, so I ended up returning it to BestBuy and just getting a Pocketbook instead. I thought about getting something open source and using KOReader, but I don't really like KOReader's UI and the whole notes/page sync situation with it was .. less than optimal.
This does seem interesting though. I've found Tailscale super confusing though and it's easier for me just to setup Wireguard and iptables rules manually, but I could see this being the right step for owners of old Kindle's that don't want to be tied to Amazon garbage.
I've always hated the use of the term 'jailbreak' outside of the iOS. Especially when they kept using it during the PlayStation 3 era.
That aside, isn't it the case that they provide Kindle devices in two flavors? One more expensive, w/o the ads, the other one cheaper, but w/ the ads? ...or has this somehow changed?
