Windows 11 26H2 Released.

So... Windows 11 26H2 has been released. Anyone excited, yet?

Fun stuff... the thing that's been in the past Windows versions... the ability to move the Taskbar around... has been reintroduced... finally.

Nothing broke after the update... thus far. We'll see how it goes.

Every Windows version is a mixed bag of upgrades and downgrades ๐Ÿ˜…

Quite true. Like, for example, this reintroduction of moving the taskbar to any edge of the screen... made useless by !allowing to auto-hide it when it's positioned anywhere else than the bottom.

My Windows 7 && Windows 10 machines handle that well.
Hell, even my Linux Manjaro handles that.

I do wonder what they broke in this version of Windows, though. I'm sure there's something.

I kinda wonder why all these new versions are needed. I mean, in Windows XP people decided that everything is fine. No complains means awesome. I mention XP and not 2000 because search bar for apps is a hard requirement and the reason I drove xfce instead of lxde. Is LXDE even alive still? Last time I used it actually, it felt extremely unpolished.

Wow wow wow. I thought that LXDE was a window manager itself. But it used Openbox. And a shocker, that development stopped in 2015.

But here's a very hard reality check: my own window manager probably was more convenient than theirs and thanks to Swift even easier to maintain.

I mean - a lot of products will cease to exist probably. I think I spent around 40 hours prompting for my env and in the end - it felt like a Mercedes. It was really solid. But I made several wrong design choices. Doesn't matter, I did not expect to use a self-written DM and actually enjoy it of this quality.

The end game of a perfect desktop environment is XFCE. Also, Chromebook is quite interesting. Maybe Mac as well, I did not use it for a few months and it ended with a psychosis resulting in me remembering literally nothing of those months.

But I do not consider Windows a serious desktop environment in any way.

You're getting some royalties from each XFCE installation, or something?

I just realize that I am not using my own desktop manager anymore for a few weeks now. I am using now a Chromebook with literally always two windows open.
