I don't care for any of your sins of people, government, organisation, companies. I don't mind them at all.

But I only mind one thing: Lying. The one thing that pisses me off. If I had a gun I'd put a bullet right through your eyes.

Speak the truth even if it leads to your death.

    I always thought deception is the root of all evil

    but apparently not a single religion has ever said that which confuses me

    And that one thing you're beating your wife for i guess.
  • 1
    @jestdotty that's because every single religion is based on deception.

    @retoor I don't beat my wife, it only happened once last year. I was a weak man.

    Now I love and protect her.

    What if the truth leads to other people's death?

    @tosensei it's based on metaphor

    @tosensei metaphor is not deception. it's figuratively true, just not literally true. this makes it still useful / beneficial

    deception on the other hand is self destructive. people deceive you to be malicious, not benevolent / of benefit to you (even if they may be saying that sometimes -- lots love that move)

    @jestdotty the word "deception" itself does not imply malevolent intent. for example: the old movie trope of "that wasn't a magic McGuffin helping you achieve your goals, it was you all along" is deception, too, for an extremely benevolent cause.

    and a metaphor is, basically "implicitly describing thing A through explicitly describing thing B". and given that A is not B, this is, by definition, a form of deception. it may figuratively be true - but literally, it is very much the opposite.
