Okay what is this shit.

You apply for a job, they dangle the carrot on you for over a month, cancel multiple appointments, finally you have an interview, they seem happy. Then they go on vacation two weeks.

In the end they end up rejecting me because of 'internal decisions'.

bull shit. Shit bull. Fuck cluck fuck muck.

    it's like nobody actually wants to hire anyone. idk what's up with humans

    maybe i'll go work for a games testing company... I don't see a future in "software development". I like writing software but I really hate the work environment

    I was using AI to look into organizational psychology (which informs HR practices) and they categorize motivation into 3 categories. calling (can underpay, will withstand abuse. think their job has meaning for the world), career which is apparently ACHIEVEMENT orientated and that's what all the programmer jobs are turns out and I think that's probably what makes it toxic because "competitive" aka backstab, and job orientation which is just for the money/benefits

    first time I heard of the word career it was a higher up threatening I wouldn't have one. I spent years trying to figure out what it meant. nobody told me it was achievement. but that's why those useless certificates. they're ACHIEVEMENTS. like useless high score hoops. explains a lot

    Are you really still looking for a job? What a hell.

    @jestdotty but the it industry is one of the mellow industries. Imagine having to lay a literal wall of bricks or having to sell cars for commission. If you think IT has a fucked up culture I have bad news for you.

    @Lensflare An FFVII cactus.

    @jestdotty That just made me think of Software Development as in De-gression. lmao

    Yeah, the work environment sucks.

    Hm, interesting research there. Yeah I have seen the backstabbers several times.

    When I heard of the word 'career', it was to indicate that you own your own career. I've seen so many certificates by so many people. It's madness. I think they might be used to cover up for their misallocated expenses.

    @whimsical in NL maybe. that NL stalker guy who I had... i am so angerly jealous of his situation. he doesn't even look for jobs, he uses some kind of agency. he always works from home. doesn't do any work for 3-6 months at a time. average time for him to get fired was 9+ months because the laws protect him so much it seems. he keeps getting fired because he just spends all his time at home arguing on the internet instead of coding anything, and yet these agencies still keep handing him job after job even though he gets fired at every single one of them for ceasing to work for months at a time

    he's also high on weed 24/7 (except when he quits for a couple weeks) to the point of incoherence, AND one time someone contacted his employer giving them his posting history about pedo shit and he got fired -- BUT HE'S STILL JUST BEING GIVEN JOBS. I never even heard of him go on an interview. he's just handed these things even though he doesn't work

    NL is a totally different world

    NL is a country of farmers

    whereas USA and Canada are bureaucratic middle managers

    farmers are down to earth and speak truth. middle managers optimize for bullshit and fake status, covert racism instead of fun overt racist jokes, and know absolutely nothing about the real world or even acknowledge physical reality in any way, they just speak in buzzwords and use magical bullshit for decision-making I call "politics" where it's all about in-group signalling and cliques like it's a high school of the nihilism of nerds and the snobbery of popular kids in one individual

    @CaptainRant you mean Cactuar! ^^

    @jestdotty probably a guy working in the west. I've worked in Utrecht and Amsterdam. Never again. Stupid people. Not leaving the east again for work.

    @jestdotty that agency probably is named "detachering". Kind of outsourcing. You always get paid, even when there is no customer. Crazy enough it even pays well but not as much as self employed. It's very cool because you work for many companies and learn from everyone. I did that for years. The benefit of being employed instead of self employed in netherlands is that you have social security that self employed does not have. It's a bit crazy, but as a well paid software developer I do not see really a reason to be self employed since you get paid well anyway and never have to worry about getting sick or whatever. Also, when employed you get once a year vacation money. That's nice.

    @whimsical *holds back rage at your idealic situation*

    i tried to look up agencies here... didn't even need to sign up. they had job boards. at best there were 1-3 jobs on there for software developers. and you don't work for them... they aren't paying you.. they take a cut of your pay instead. cuz that's how it works in USA/Canada

    @jestdotty those sound like just recruiters, they don't take risk and they're just bastards. Always very incompetent people. Raise your hand if you were ever able to learn a recruiter something. They don't care about placing a backend css developer vacancy. You can tell them the difference, believe me, they don't care.

    @Lensflare That's the character name, yes. lol
  • 1
    @jestdotty Yeah, it's tiring hearing that "let's circle back to that" when they are talking to you in person and can't speak anything else than corporate bs instead of human language.

    @jestdotty > 'maybe i'll go work for a games testing company...'.

    DM me, maybe I'll get you in. We have Canadian division.

    /jk

    /* I don't think I have that much pull, yet. */

    Somewhat unrelated, I've found this distinction hilarious: https://devrant.molodetz.nl/preview... .

    @Lensflare Cactuars are fun, fast little bastards. IIRC they dealt damage in multiples of 1000. Tonberries are kind of creepy, though.

    'Why are they moving so slowly towards me? What happens when they _do_ reach me?... I don't want to find out.'.

    ...of course I have found out... nothing good, obviously.

    @D-4got10-01 those little bastards dodge almost every attack! Fuck them! With a cactus!
