My dad put parental controls on the wifi password, programmed a key logger to get the password.
Hooked ever since
(6 years ago)7 -
Clearly Mozilla is the villain here for prioritising privacy and personal freedom over censorship, control, and surveillance. Oh, our parental controls don't work! WON'T SOMEBODY THINK OF THE CHILDREN! wtf

No work is going to be tolerable if you don't enjoy it. If you got into programming or IT or any industry simply for the money you can earn doing it, you're in for a BAD TIME.
I love computers, linux, programming, configuration, automation, and problem solving. So I love what I do. I am currently three weeks into 13 weeks of parental leave, and I have been having dreams about work at night.
The best piece of advice I can offer to someone who has trouble getting motivated is: make sure to like it first.10 -
All love to Android community.
I made a parental control app where parent can control child phone using SMS. Also I published research paper on it and gonna do presentation on March 23.19 -
Story #1: So I took a month of parental leave. And was planning to extend it a little longer to deal with my final exams. I was planning to spend lots of quality time with my wife and newborn son. Little did I know... It turns out that out of 5 OoO weeks I was looking forward I actually had 3 at most. The rest I've spent working remotely as I was insisted to deploy a brand new and poorly tested feature to PROD 2 days before my paternity leave. So I spent 2 weeks debugging things in PROD. Remotely. Needless to say that did suck.
Story #2: After story #1 I've learnt my lesson. This summer I took 3 weeks annual leave to renovate my apartment. I asked to not to be disturbed unless there's an emergency. And an emergency it was. One of our app users had a planned hi-load batch job lasting for 2-3 months. Hundreds of thousands of items had to be created and processed. It turns out the _processing_ algo had some flaws and was acting out. I was called out and asked to assist. I knew this sort of debugging is going to take a lot of my time so this time I put my conditions on the table: I will assist but I'll extend my leave by 1.5 the time I spend working now. They took the deal. Instead of 3 weeks I had 5 weeks of vacation!
I don't care that much about my salary. I prefer to exchange it for my time off hence I didn't ask for compensations.
Bottom line: NEVER EVER underestimate or undersell your time and effort. You are a valuable asset and if the team/client needs you on your day off -- make it count. Your time off is YOUR time. Never forget it.3 -
Not really hacking, but my roommate says otherwise. So we share a router in the apartment and I’m the only one that really knows how to access it, so of course I change the password and tell no one (not like they’ll try to get in anyway).
Occasionally set roommate likes to get blackout and play music very loud at 2am. To be petty, on those occasions I set up an RPi Zero to connect to the WiFi, restart it, and sleep for a minute, and repeat. He’s still convinced we are getting DDOSd, and suspects nothing.
Reason I don’t just set parental controls - he gets more frustrated when the WiFi appears for 10secs, the music is just about to start and shuts off again. So he gives up quicker. Otherwise, he resets the router and I have to set up everything from the start.3 -
Being asked (or more accurately made!) to travel Mon-Fri (i.e. staying away from home) for at least 2 months to a customer's site to work on a completely insane project that had no design, formal requirements, preparation or support. It was just a "friendly side project" 2 friendly managers concocted.
After some research, the project wasn't actually technically possible, but the customer wanted it so I had to try to find a solution.
The complication for me was that my wife was almost 8 months pregnant with our first kid and I made it clear I really wanted to be at home. Was left to feel I had little choice but to go. Project runs over but damnit I'm taking my 3 weeks parental leave entitlement.
Day before I'm due to go back to work, I get an email saying "You'll be travelling tomorrow for the next few weeks". At that point, I replied with the most angry work email I've ever sent and threatened that if that was the case I wouldn't be back. Plans were changed.
I ended up leaving within a couple of months anyway.2 -
I know you folks in Europe and elsewhere in the world probably take this sort of thing for granted, but it is really unusual here in the US. When our daughter is born next month, I will be entitled to 12 weeks of paid leave, which my boss (great guy, btw) has encouraged me to take fully.
My concern is that I have projects, and twelve weeks is enough time that they would probably die on the vine, even if/when I hand them off to someone else.
It's stressful, and I need a way to deal with it.5 -
Dad: why are you doing IT after I put you through business school
Me: because you're the one that nagged me not to do it instead CS.... So now I'm stuck in IT... Because I can't seem to understand Big O and algorithms needed to pass a technical interview...6 -

Met @condor irl today. He's the same weird guy as I feel at moments. Interests that don't interest people around us in any way..
Drank some beers, evidently called Belgium.
He came all the way to the town I work at.. kudos!
Talked about breadboards taking 230V via cables that aren't meant to take the voltage in any way.. Security implications in networks and online services, like Fb. Faraday's cage & how it works; and some other shit I swear I won't tell anyone about as you should be comfortable discussing it.
Quite interesting, I swear! (:
Now on the bus home, as I had to cut it short to get to some parental business... But I'm looking back on some positive social interaction, which I'll gladly re-do another time.
Condor, it was sure nice to meet ya. I'll come your way next time. That ~10eu for your transport will be equalled some day in the near future.
@FunkDelegate sorry it was badly timed and plaved, you'll join us soon enough! At least you saw decent ass! xD3 -
My opinion on Spotify introducing parental controls:
As a software engineer
When I see a track labeled as Explicit
Then I know it's a piece of p**s to filter out that track if a child is logged in.3 -
Hacking the parental control software parents which limited the access to 70 minutes a day.
The only thing I had to do was not clicking OK on the message box which was shown whenever I logged in. It was a model dialog which blocked everything else...1 -
My mistake for using edge. Uggggggg I hate microsoft. My parents don't know how to use word. How could they know how to set up parental controls.
Fuck Mega$hit.

At first, you're just a baby who cries and poops.
You outgrow the baby clothes, the crib and the stroller.
Then, you're just a child who plays, runs around and starts school.
You grow tired of your toys and are no longer allowed in the ballpit.
Then, you're just a teenager who curses, sulks and defies your parents.
You grow tired of teen music, stow your stuff away and move out.
Then, you're just a student who finally gets to drive a car and vote, but has no money.
You get a job, a place of your own, start dating and fall in love.
Then you're just a noob at everything you do; new at work, newly in love; feeling your way through life.
You have children and no longer have time to spare for anything else.
Then, you're just a parent taking parental leaves, attend parent-teacher meetings and neglect your friends.
You're no longer welcome in the children's games, or even to talk to them.
Then, you're just an "old fart" or "bitch" who's only good when you give them dough.
You help the children move out, you retire and have grandchildren.
Then, you're just a senior citizen who talks about nothing but your grandchildren and go window shopping outside the pharmacy.
You're hearing and vision get impaired, you get ailments and lose your memory as well as your intellect.
Then, you're just dead.
So, at what stage of life are you really somebody?11 -
Hey Microsoft,
Do us a favor and make Intune also a thing for parental control, because I found out Intune is actually MUCH more effective at preventing my nieces from destroying the PC than the regular controls
I mean honestly the parental controls for consumers are too basic, we can't even add proper policies2 -
So I'm returning from parental leave on next week...
One of the projects I'm involved in, was at 10% progress when I left, had planning and documentation made by me, development environment and test suite setup by me and had tests and was being reviewed.
Right now it should be arround 75% progress, no longer is being reviewed, planning is not being followed and no tests have been made since I've left...
Why bother with dumb ass devs!2 -
Fuck Google! I'm trying to write a fucking parential app that I can install on my little sisters phone, because I won't download something that is meant to monitor activity on a child's phone when I am capable of writing one. Problem is, I test it on my phone which has Android 10, because I am not keen on testing with a slowpoke out of wood brick that the target phone is. Android 10 does not let you do a single shit that is needed for a parential software. You try to turn on airplane mode to prevent messages from arriving and such? Well.... nope, you can't. Okay... airplane mode is too drastic. Let's try turning off WiFi and Data. Fuck me, you can't do that either. I gave the app fucking system permissions and It laughs in my face when I try to access some simple shit like... WiFi state. Miserable. I wonder if it will let me mute the fucking volume on the phone. I guess It won't, because "You shouldn't set these things on a user's phone.". Well, fuck that. That's exactly what I need. That old brick does not have built in parental settings. Jesus.13

I can't come to terms with people's terrible reasonings.
You read a news about something. Let's assume it has to do with a sensitive topic, like race, gender, culture, religion, something polarizing, that makes you pick 1 of 2 sides.
So what do some people do? They ask themselves "ok what group do I adhere? How do I label myself?".
Then they ask "what do other people in said group/label think about the matter?", sometimes it's people in the media, friends,
sometimes people even create a mental construct of a stereotypical person of said group, a hypothetical one, and use the opinion of said construct as representative.
And final step is a knee jerk reaction of "I believe that too!!!!!!".
Obviously, all of this can't bring no one closer to the theorical truth or the least flawed conclusion.
What does? Case by case basis.
You judge every case as if every case was its own thing.
But why does some people have a hard time doing that? Just general ignorance maybe?
Maybe this tends to occur in families where parents don't teach their kids to challenge their beliefs, or teach them that doing so could result in lack of parental acceptance.
People also have peer pressure, the need to belong and feel accepted. That means sharing the same points of view with close people and considering the opposite taboo.
There's also the very ignorant people that have conspiracies for lunch.
In any case, I feel some people don't even fucking try to be neutral.3 -
Parental Programming: noun 1. Between chaning diapers and preparing milk bottles you contemplate about the code you are going to write. So in the 5 min you get to do it you can punch it out almost perfectly before you have to clean vomit from a carpet.

I hate BT.
Today, it started redirecting me to a page saying, basically, to activate their DNS server on the router for "BT Protect" and "Parental Controls" to work, despite the fact that my parents never turned it on. Their support lines appear to be staffed with Indians taught to answer very basic questions, and forwarded me to "tech experts" from BT, a service that apparently costs £8 a month, because "the issue is out of their scope".
How is this even legal?1 -
man if i could figure out how to do stuff and had the money to do stuff i'd be dangerous as fuck, but as of now i can only posit questions... it sucks.
Examples:
- What do modern browsers/crawlers do when hit with, say, an "HTTP 450 Blocked by Windows Parental Controls" or an "HTTP 374" status code?
- What happens if I do <xyz minor edge case thing> on <system?> (just use your imagination, this happens for every edge case i can think of for every system and the list wouldn't fit in a few megs' worth of half-byte ASCII, much less *here*)
- What if I made like a board to fuck with busses while systems were on? Press a button and for like five bus clock cycles pins like 6 and 7 are shorted? That sort of thing. As for system/bus types, *literally any* (old consoles with expansion ports, PCI/-e/-X/whatever, southbridge, etc.)
- What if I did <filetype> shenanigans by doing <something indescribably horrible> to this file? How do things react?3 -
So, my CS teacher has gone on paternity (?), or rather, parental leave until September.
Awesome.
That basically ruins my mondays and wednesdays.
Actually now that I think of it...
Fuck it, free time.
And we don't even get a substitute teacher.
Heh.2 -
In a time when truth is often buried behind screens and secrets, these cyberpunk programmers are true digital vigilantes. I reached out with deep suspicions about my partner’s late-night texts and constant phone guarding. Within days, they exposed everything — from hidden messages to secret apps I never knew existed. They used advanced phone cloning techniques and remote access tools to show me exactly what was going on. It wasn’t just about catching a cheater; it was about reclaiming my peace of mind.
Beyond personal investigations, their skills extend into parental control and child safety.
These programmers operate with professionalism, efficiency, and a futuristic edge. It felt like something out of a sci-fi film — but real, and incredibly effective. They're not just tech experts; they’re digital detectives with a mission to uncover truth and protect clients.
Highly recommend if you’re dealing with cheating suspicions, phone security breaches, or simply want to ensure your loved ones are safe. Discreet, reliable, and incredibly effective. Just reach them at cyberpunkprogrammersDOTcom2 -
Is it safe for teens to use Telegram for chatting, or should I be concerned about sexting?
Telegram can be a little risky because it’s not very strict about content. It lets people message secretly, and some users might try to take advantage of that. While Telegram’s cool for privacy, it can also expose teens to unwanted attention or pressure to sext. Plus, the app’s “secret chat” feature makes it harder for parents to monitor, which could encourage teens to engage in risky behavior without realizing the consequences. If your teen uses it, keep an eye on what they’re doing on there, set clear rules, and make sure they understand the risks of sexting here https://msafely.com/parental-contro... both emotional and legal. The best approach is open communication, so they feel comfortable talking to you if anything feels off.2 -
I have a couple of "at risk" teens (I won't say what) who need an extra level of Internet filtering and restriction for their own protection against their use of really bad judgment. I've already enabled the OpenDNS parental control URL/content filters on my Netgear R8000 router but one of the teens has figured out how to install a VPN on mobile. I want to enable the router's OpenVPN feature for better overall security for all of us. But is there a way to block the use of an "unauthorized" VPN, like on a mobile device, without also effectively blocking my router's OpenVPN as well? I was looking at this post (https://community.netgear.com/t5/...) but wondered if anyone here has experience with this.6

Screen Usage Tracking at Work: Balancing Productivity and Privacy
Introduction
In today’s fast-paced, tech-driven work environments, screen usage tracking has become an essential tool for organizations aiming to improve productivity, security and efficiency. Modern organizations use these monitoring tools to track employee digital device activities because they need to ensure productive time usage. Screen usage tracking generates important privacy issues and ethical problems regarding technological implementation. The successful implementation of productive spaces must preserve worker privacy rights. The following article addresses all aspects of workplace screen usage tracking, including its advantages and disadvantages and proper implementation guidelines.
The Need for Screen Usage Tracking in the Workplace
The demand for screen usage tracking arises from several factors. Digital activity monitoring enables employers to confirm that staff members concentrate on their work tasks while they are at their desks. Remote work and hybrid models have become standard in workplaces because employees can no longer prove their productivity through office attendance. Employers need to monitor how workers spend their time at work because they want both performance outcomes and adequate time management.
Businesses operating in specific industries need to track their employees' activities to secure data because regulatory standards demand it. Through online activity tracking, employers achieve two objectives: they detect suspicious behavior right away and stop employees from accessing unauthorized confidential data. Screen usage tracking functions as an essential tool for both business efficiency maintenance and security protection of organizational assets.
Benefits of Screen Usage Tracking
Reduces Distractions
Employees lose their focus on work when there is no oversight system in place. Screen tracking ensures that employees are focused and using their time effectively, especially during work hours. Work hour restrictions on particular apps and websites through blocking mechanisms help employees stay focused on their tasks.
Enhances Security and Compliance
Employees lose their focus on work when there is no oversight system in place. Work hours require employees to remain focused while using their time effectively because screen tracking provides this oversight. Work hour restrictions on particular apps and websites through blocking mechanisms help employees stay focused on their tasks.
Data-Driven Insights
Screen usage data generates important information about employee work habits as well as employee engagement levels. By monitoring screen usage data managers can identify workers who require extra support and training along with identifying staff members who work excessively and those who perform above expectations. Staff management strategies and workplace performance benefit from these insights gained.
Future of Screen Usage Tracking in Workplaces
Screen usage monitoring will experience future evolution through technological developments that define how tracking occurs. These screen usage tracking tools will benefit from Artificial Intelligence (AI) because it brings both enhanced accuracy and usefulness. Artificial intelligence programming systems analyze staff behavioral patterns to generate forecast data which leads to predictive productivity improvement strategies.
Privacy laws together with regulations, will likely advance in their development. Organizations must discover methods to integrate employee rights protection systems with their monitoring strategies due to rising data privacy concerns. Organizations will adopt standard tracking policies based on transparency and employee consent to maintain ethical and legal handling of employee data.
Qoli.AI drives revolutionary changes in screen usage tracking through its leading AI technology solutions. Data-driven business decisions through Qoli.AI become possible because they provide up-to-the-minute employee performance and behavioral data while adhering to privacy limits. The platform integrates advanced technology to connect with workplace systems which provides employees with trustworthy monitoring solutions.
Conclusion
The implementation of work screen monitoring serves both positive and negative functions. Employment screen tracking enables productivity enhancement and security alongside operational efficiency at the cost of severe privacy issues and moral problems. The successful implementation of work performance enhancement requires organizations to maintain the proper balance between performance upliftment and employee privacy protection. The use of screen tracking tools benefits employers when they maintain transparency and gain employee consent, as well as develop ethical standards that protect employee trust and workplace morale.2 -
The ethical implications of utilizing tech cyber force recovery for monitoring digital behavior are complex and multifaceted. At its core, this technology allows for the covert tracking and analysis of an individual's online activities, potentially exposing sensitive information and private habits without their knowledge or consent. This raises serious concerns around privacy rights, as the ability to peer into a partner's digital footprint without their awareness could be seen as a violation of personal autonomy and the reasonable expectation of digital privacy. There are also questions of how this data could be leveraged, as the detailed insights provided by tech cyber force recovery could enable the manipulation or exploitation of users, whether for commercial gain, social control, or nefarious purposes. Additionally, the potential for abuse of this technology by bad actors, whether hackers, oppressive regimes, or other malicious entities, introduces significant risks that must be carefully weighed against any perceived benefits. Proponents may argue that tech cyber force recovery aids in investigations, cybersecurity, or parental monitoring, but the ethical bar is high when it comes to the covert surveillance of digital activities. Ultimately, the use of this technology requires a thoughtful, nuanced approach that prioritizes individual rights, data privacy, and the responsible, transparent application of such powerful monitoring capabilities. If you ever have doubt that our partner is cheating on you, do not hesitate to let tech cyber force recovery assist you via:

It's always fun to have to explain things like COPPA to a client and why we can't just use high school kids to test an app targeted at an older demographic anyway. Looking at thousands of dollars in fines per infraction if they use it without parental consent.
