So this happened last night...
Gf: my favorite bra is not fitting me anymore
Me: get a new one ?
Gf: but it is a C already.
Me: get a c++.
After 5 sec i bursted in laughter, she was confused.24 -

Client: our app has low ratings, we fired our previous dev company and hiring you instead.
Us: all right, seems like to make a better app we need 5 months.
C: you're kidding, do it in 6 weeks.
U: Ok, but we'll have to drop some features.
C: get rid of X and Y, nobody uses them.
U: deal!
... 6 weeks later...
U: here's the new app: better graphics, easier to use, more stable and more future-proof.
C: Cool! Let's deploy!
... 2 days later...
C: we just released but the users are really pissed off!
U: what do they say?
C: "what the fuck happened with X and Y? they were the only thing we're using! what a load of crap! 1 star"
Dear client, next time get to know better your users...7 -
So... A random morning moment:
(c - Cient, m - me)
C: Help!!! Our users are complaining that our website is not working as intended!!! This is crucial!!!!
M: What's the problem? What is not working?
C: EVERYTHING!!!! FIX IT!!!!
M: Could you be more specific...?
C: Look at the bugsnag - it has all the errrors!!!
M: *looks there - no errors* - But... It has no errors...
C: Okay, so client told me he's using Galaxy SII - does that ring a bell?
M: *thinks that I'm fucked* - Asks, which browser?
C: Why do you need it? It's a browser after all...
M: Yeah but not all browsers are the same and I need type and version to investigate...
C: It's Samsung default browser... Last updated 2012 January.
M: Well, tell that user to update the browser, the site is working fine on newer versions...
C: No, you update it.
M: Browser?!
C: Yes, what else?!
M: Of course, I'll fly 3000 kilometres to press UPDATE button on clients phone...
C: Well, he's not doing it himself - he's afraid!
M: Well, that is his problem. Site is working fine for other users with newer browsers.
C: But... He's a client
M: I get it but he's a client that uses 6 years old browser and tries to visit our website. Don't you remember that we ditched IE support on your behalf for the same reason?!
C: Oh... I see... Can you make something that it works with 2005 browsers?
M: Of course... *evil laugh starts* I'll make the website work on EVERY single device EVER - make it plain text.
C: Are you joking?
M: Are you?
----
And since then, we ditched the actual need for supporting users with old browsers that don't update to modern standards... Feels great!12 -

Interviewer: "Do you know Xamarin?"
Me: "I mean I know C# but not app development"
Interviewer: "You're hired!"
Thats pretty much how my interview went12 -
I delivered a small C# program long time ago.
Unit tests, integrations tests, functional tests, all passing (users even happy).
Colleague of mine approached me.
C: "I finally fixed the program"
M: "Which program?"
C: "Product X"
M: "What was wrong with it?"
C: "Nothing, but now it runs on Python"
M: "..."
C: "Yeah, we lost a few features, but it's Python!"
M: "Aren't you busy with other things?"
C: "That can wait"

Java and C were telling jokes. It was C's turn, so he writes something on the wall, points to it and says "Do you get the reference?" But Java didn't.
C gets all the chicks and Java doesn't? Because C doesn't treat them like objects.
But I think C could at least give Java some pointers8 -
Boss: we have a project, we will need an application on Mac with objective-c.
Me: But I am a Java developer, I never touched a Mac or objective-c !
Boss: it's ok, use Google, you will find some useful stuff there..
Me: But..
Boss: we have a week for a demo17 -
recruiter:
I see you worked for 5 years at xyz and you used c# but your CV says you used other technologies like sql and you did testing.. So how much of your time was spent writing c#?
me:
Most of the time.. Maybe 60%.
recruiter:
Ok, let me work that out... ok I will put down that you have 3 years c# experience.9 -
Teaching a friend C:
"Thanks for giving me all the... ahem. Pointers."
Waits 2 Minutes
"But like seriously what is a pointer again?"8 -
Me: I know so many languages, I don't need to learn c++ to follow along with this 3D OpenGl tutorial!
Narrator: Oh, but he did need to know c++ to follow along with the 3D OpenGl tutorial.4 -

Manager: Feature C doesn’t work
Dev: We never built feature C
Manager: Nonsense, I remember feature C clearly!
Dev: It’s still in the backlog
Manager: But we had many meetings about it
Dev: Never got put on the board
Manager: Feature C is very important!
Dev: It was never assigned to anyone
Manager: What could possibly be more important than Feature C?
Dev: All the other features you placed on the board and assigned up until now
Manager: Well I need Feature C done asap! It should be top priority!
Dev: Ok then next sprint add feature C to the board and assign it to someone
*Next planning session manager leaves feature C in backlog in favour of other tickets*

Manager: What is the status of feature C?
Dev: You opted to leave it in the backlog
Manager: BUT IT SHOULD BE TOP PRIORITY!

I'm developing my "game engine" for over 2 years. 9 complete rewrite and 3 language change (c#->java->c++) but I love doing it. It's an amazing experience :D15

Interview (first job):
Interviewer: So what languages do you know?
Me: Well, i learnd C, C++ and Matlab scripting, but i'm learning C# as a personal project.
Interviewer: Perfect!
First day:
Interviewer(now boss): So, a guy is leaving next week and you will be replacing him. He has 70 projects and you will be responsible for this production test platform in JAVA11 -

Indians in a nutshell...
X feature is unavailable in the paid version.
But X = a + b + c in other free softwares.
Problem hacked.9 -
So at the beginning there was assembly.
But people wanted something more highlevel, so C was born.
But writing big projects was a pain so C++ was invented.
But then the web started to become more popular and C++ wasn‘t really good at that, so Rasmus Lerdorf created PHP.
And then everything moved to the client and should be loaded dynamically for better UX, so everyone writes JS.
But JS doesn‘t have a good performance, so people created web assembly compiled from C...
Am i the only one who sees the irony in this?7 -
On my annoying radar today - devs who learn one language and then *insist* on using it for everything, even when it makes absolutely zero sense.
"Ooh I'd like to do some microcontroller development. But I only know Java. How do you run Java on a microcontroller?"
"...You don't."
"...but I heard a talk where someone did it. Look, there's this microjava page. How do I use it?"
"It's an interesting technical demo, but that's it. Dude, just learn C. It's not hard, Java has C style syntax anyway and this way you can...."
"...but I only want to use modern programming languages. C is irrelevant these days, it's pointless me learning it."
"It's definitely still relevant if you want to program a microcontroller."
"...but I want to do that in Java."

Seeing someone prototype a 3D game with complex lighting using OpenGL in a 15 minute video (It was sped up about 4x but, still, fuck me)
Using c. Not c++.
He also did 3D graphics in BASIC from scratch to explain how they work, generally.15 -
A guy breaks into your house and start slapping your face with a huge C programming book for 5 minutes until you bleed top quality code from your nose.
Well this is what I was going to comment to the "learn C in 5 minutes app" rant, but can't find it anymore.2 -

New project in C++. I don't know C++ but very good at C and Java so not worried.
New guy joins us. Gets stuck on how to concatenate a string. No big deal since he is new to the language too and doesn't have a C background. I offer to help and he goes on a 10 min rant about how C and C++ are different and I don't know what I'm talking about.
Wait until he's done. Tell him just to do strcat(possibly a better way but I'm literally in day 2 of my C++ skills, but I knew it would work). He mumbles how is not going to work as he types like he's going to shove it in my face when it fails.
It was like a beautiful geeky mic drop when it worked perfectly.5 -
First time ever implementing an Android app from scratch (coming from C++ but also worked with C# and Python): WHAT THE HELL IS THIS SHIT???13

Visited Java and couldn't C on short distances. Went to an iClinic that Swift'ly gave me c++ goggles. I can now C# but I Haskell been struggling with my OCaml as it's been bit by a Bash'ing Python in a Shell. I'm not trying to sell you a Ruby but I can't find my way back to BASIC.4

Damn fuck it. I am making a program with

Sorry if the rant doesn't make sense. I am too tired.11 -
This has been posted a few times but I just want to reiterate for noobs that !Rant means NOT rant, like the C, C++, Python, Java, etc versions. Not like CSS !Important or ruby do_this!(indeed) etc.5

Writing an emulator for an 8-bit computer with 8-bit memory addressing in C. Or maybe writing a web server in C... Both were really fun and I learned a lot. (But I love C, so there’s that)2

That feel when you’re asked to share work you’re proud of and you’re not proud of anything.
Or rather, you are... but they’re programs written in C/C++ and you’re interviewing for a mostly frontend gig in React.11 -
Yeah.. it's a shame C# doesn't have a type to hold this (4) and then you have to resort to using var.. I am so disappointed, I've heard C# is crap, but this.. THIS!! It doesn't even have a type for normal integers!! FFS!!! I thought it was better than this!!
Oh, wait.. it's not C# who is 'weird'!! It's my super duper cool ex coworker who made a mess of the simple code again... I admit, this is not such a huge deal.. BUT... It doesn't end here.. o.O39 -
I love C# but oh my god can .NET Core please take over already so I don’t have to use windows 24/7 anymore 😩7

All the time while I'm programming I hate Java.... Don't hate me now :D I'm learning Java in high school. I very love very fast programming languages such as C and C++, so this is why I don't like Java, but there are some reasons why I like Java. I just started learning how to create own window. What the hack is this? This is so simple. I tried to create window in C/C++ with OpenGL, just blank window with color. Complicated..... But with java it's fairy tale.
You can add me now to Java familly, but remember I also love C++.
So here your are, Hello World Java FX app :D
Final goal:
Create window application similar scratch.16 -
I fucking nailed my c exam.
Had to write C on paper today. Fuck my uni for that. But I think I aced it. I coded C for weeks and hopefully finally payed off.
Fuck coding on paper though. They are just too lazy to make something digital. But man at least let me get some compiler messages. It's not like anyone codes without compiler messages anymore. -
C is nice and all but have you ever had to massacre your code with preprocessor instructions to make your code portable?3

If I do it in python : Finish in one day!
If I do it in C++ :
1 week for installation and configuration
3 days for coding
Another 1 day for troubleshooting...
But I will still prefer do it in C++.5 -
Been really busy with things haven’t got around to posting a book in like a week or so..
But I’ll post one today..
This book...
This book, available for free online or you can buy it, written in 1994. But so under appreciated by people for some reason most people never have seen it or know about it. But this is the ONLY book I know of that actually covers this topic.. the only book in existence that specifically goes thru how OOP can be done with C.
NOW hold up before you say just use C++ stop and think for a second.. bear with me.
First off this book is purely for informational purposes and educational use to deepen your understanding of what OOP is actually doing behind the scenes in languages like C++ where keywords exist for these things and you just blindly use them without thinking about under the hood.
This book contains a lot of code and builds you up a complexly library from scratch to make OOP in C... now I don’t take this book literally and this but I have implemented some concepts from this book in projects in the past, and it helps a lot.
Also in my honest opinion If you finish this book, you will be a better C programmer AND c++ programmer, C programming because it teaches you a lot about complex things that you never thought about doing with the language. It proves you can do polymorphism can do inheritance and encapsulation. And it’s not really bloated either.
This books is an awesome book, if you don’t understand C pointers you definitely will after this book.. if you don’t understand OOP in C++ what’s really going on.. you will after this book. After all C++ began as just a preprocessor of C.
Great book for writing reusable, extendable large scale embedded c systems.
Anyway.. rare book of which should not be rare considering it’s free.3 -
I once had a class mate who argued that coding in C not only produced faster code than .NET C#, but that he could actually produce applications faster than me in C.
I challenged him to make a Web browser. While he was struggling to remember if it was #include <stdio.h> or #include <iostream>, I started typing WebBro... and let IntelliSense work it's magic.
Needless to say I won.
Sadly, he wouldn't admit his defeat but went on about how much faster his browser would run in the end...
He has yet to release a Web browser written completely in C.15 -

A few days ago, one could have said that C++ is giving me PTSD.
Now, I've come to adore, cherish and love it for it's simplicity.
It feels so much better than Java.
No shit on java, it's good in what it does but damn boi C++ can do like, fucking everything.
Probably still gonna gib me PTSD in a week or so but fuck it.13 -

Before I used to programming C++, but now I'm programming JavaScript, so Babel transpiling still counts? And SASS compiling?

So, today I tried using my C/++ Code in Java using native jvm stuff.
It's cancer to make it work but damn it's cool.4 -
In my wallowing experience as a freelancer I've noticed that almost all C/C++ clients are perfectionist. You just can't please them by getting the job done quickly.
I got a libcurl job from one the other day to scrape data from a target website and within an hour it was ready. I notified the client and he was both amazed and confused assuming it would take the whole week.
C++Client: The code works but you need to take your time.
Me: Sorry?
C++Client: Yes, it works but you used "string" instead of "wstring"
Me: 😊 Oh okay... *converts strings to wstring*
C++Client: And also variable names should be more descriptive.
Me: 😏 *int foobar => int very_long_descriptive_foobar_01*
C++Client: And also use "shorts" for page nums it'll save some bytes
Me: 😕 *int => short...*
C++Client: And also use forloops instead of whileloops
Me: ☹️ *whileloops => forloops*
C++Client: And also use -- instead of ++ in loops
Me: 😤 *for(... i++) => for(... i--)*
C++Client: And also...
C++Client: And also...
C++Client: And also...
C++Client: And also...
C++Client: And also...
C++Client: And also...
C++Client: And also...
===> Seven "and also" days later <===
Me: *completed 10 Java projects behind the scene*
C++Client: And also use pthread instead of thread
Me: 😧 It's day 7 already!
C++Client: Oh I see, great job. You can compile and send me the archived source.
Me: 🤩
C++Client: And also...

I want to share one very interesting incident -
Once upon a time, ( 9 yrs back ) I got my first PC. It had Windows XP.
After using it for 1.5 hours, I realised there are some files in C:
I said to myself, my hard disk capacity is 150GB but why some files exist in C:?
Within next 4 seconds, I issued a command to delete all files in C:
The rest you can predict :p1 -
Now I will defend USB-C untill my face turns blue and my mouth turns into a thunderbolt 3 port but fuck me some people complain about the stupidest shit when it comes to adapters...
Saw someone on twitter complaining because to get an ethernet port on his MBP... Only to notice he had purchased a USB-C to USB-A just so he can plug in a USB-A to ethernet...
Now maybe I'm thinking too logical but if you wanted an ethernet port, surely you would buy a USB-C to ethernet port and not seperate things to do the same job and then complain about it?
I can justify complaining about USB-C to auxiliary to some extent but for fuck sake I swear some people just get off on complaining about self inflicted issues -,-5 -
That specific moment a C# Developer (me) makes an API for Modding his own game but the mod language is Lua.
(And it works)6 -
I'm the kind of person that says "Fuck python, worst language, fuck C#, Java, Golang", assembly and C are superior.
But I have learned my lesson; Yesterday I learned enough C# to be able to make a windows app that connects to a another app via sockets. I tried first to do it with C++ but my app looked like shit and took me about a whole day to make. Then I tried with C#, got the App working on an hour, now I'm delighted with C#. I guess I have to be open-minded.8 -

For fuck sake I get that people like python but not everyone is going to use it!
Just want a few articles or tutorials on interpreters and would you fucking look at that, it's all just in fucking python using external libraries...
Then I purchased a couple Linux and Raspberry pi magazines just to have a gander at some of the code examples and what do you think every single piece of code is? C? C++? Vala? Nope, fucking python!
I will eventually finish learning what I can about python but there are other languages that exist that isnt fucking python, give us some C, C# or even bloody JavaScript... Please
Ok rant about python over, back to my hole12 -

"Oh, I've now learnt Java, C#, C, C++, Rust, Javascript, node.js, HTML, CSS, Angular, Vue, Erlang and probably a bunch of other stuff I've forgotten. What do you think I should concentrate on next?"
"Hmm. Probably best to take just one of those and learn it really thoroughly."
"...but I already know them all really thoroughly."

Did anyone heard about modular C?
I'm working on it at school, it's like how to do OOP in C with structures and function pointers.
We're developing the String class but next, we will make a basic C++ implementation in C before beginning the real C++
Do you think it's a good path?5 -
About a year ago a co-scout gave me: an FM radio, a CD cover, tape and some other random bits, and proceded to say.
c-s: Build a metaldetector from this, I don't know how.

me: Yes, but that is not "computers".

I work with J2EE every day, especially Spring and Spring Boot.
I like it very much but when I am home I love tinkering with C++ (even tough I am a beginner in this language).
Is anyone else like this? It's like C++ has a misterious charm for me, not sure why. I also enjoy haskell and erlang, but keep at getting back at C++.7 -
I recently started learning C++, thanks to Javidx9, he has one of the best YouTube channels I've ever seen, but learning it feels like every step I make I shoot my leg in the most painfull way, and every fifth step I get a massive cake.
I am very happy I already know C or I would've been completely lost.
Nevertheless, I love C++ very much6 -

Java or Python guys will never understand the feel you get when you end up getting segmentation fault in C/C++

WOW :) THAT'S WHAT WE CALL LIFE :)
PS: Although sometimes it's frustrating as hell4 -
New programmer who just pick up Python be like , C is shot , is bad , python better blablabla....
Why anyone hate C so much? I personally use C for Embedded Programming, for hardware or is better compare to using python for my case.
I love python , but I love C more. Because without C the rest don't exist. Right?
So stop hating on C. Because you might use it someday.17 -

Finally, after a a few months...
A few months ago I started a personal git gui project for learning purposes. I wanted to learn C and Gtk on Linux. After a few days of coding I wanted to include the glade file in the binary, searched the internet and found old results with no success. Fast forward to today, I start yet another project without finishing my last one (this one is also c and gtk). I'm still having this problem with the damn glade file. So I keep looking for an answer and finds two solutions, none of them worked but when mixing them together it finally works.
Damn it feels good to succeed after trying/working hard on something you've struggled with. This is what keeps my motivation up. That amazing feeling of success... ☺️7 -
Started learning Python from Java, C#, Objective-C, Swift.
It’s like Rocket Engineer who have to build a car. It’s easy but you have to learn almost everything from the beginning.6 -
I always used Python as a CLI calculator. "But Python is an interpreted language and therefore slower than C". Me:5
-
"I learned C in one of my class at Uni, but that's pretty useless, nobody uses it."'
And that's when I killed him your honor.1 -
I'm a big fan of super-modular and flexible code, but my colleagues are huge fans of Ctrl-C / Ctrl-V.1
-
C and C++ want people to use them, but make people pay for the standards. Sure, you can download a draft, but it's not guaranteed that's what's in the standard.
What is the point of a standard if you disable people from conforming to it?6 -
Just learned how chained liste in C worked (I learned everything before but I was traumatised of the liste..) . It makes me excited.1

!rant
Started learning Rust yesterday. As a web developer I like the static typing and the speed. I want to know a low-level language to complement Python but kind of dislike C and C++ and that's why I chose Rust. At the moment the syntax still feels kind of foreign but I probably need to just man up and embrace it. :)9 -
when your math teacher says she have took c++ courses but you already making app and you know better than your teacher 😎3
-
I am so 😢🤒😡 right now. I applied for a remote job, so they gave me an assessment and the language was c++. The funny thing is that c++ was not in my resume.
So I decided to explore c++. "I don't know what the fuss is, C++ is not so hard". It was very easy for me to grasp. It took me two days to understand it.
Then I did one of those online test and I scored 58/60.
Now I went back to take the assessment test on C++ but lo and behold the assessment is now on Rest API.
But Rest API is also not on my resume. They are not assessing me on my strengths like Java or kotlin or python or my my lesser strengths like C# or JavaScript.8 -
why the hate on java? ok, i'm only studying applied computer sciences for a year now, we mainly saw java /javascript and i like them. personally i worked with python, c, c#, php, swift too but i still don't see the problem with java4
-
I am graduating in a few days for my MBO 4(pretty sure that's like community college/college in other countries) in The Netherlands and i'll be going to start working on getting my bachelor.
To prepare, i have devised a learning plan for in the summer.
Should I learn:
(C)++ and Python
(C)++ and NodeJS
(C)++ and C#
or
(C)++ and assembly
C and C++ are languages I want to learn in any case, but as for the others I am undecided.
Thanks21 -
Took a class on neural nets once upon a time and all the prerequisites had been taught in C/C++ but the professor insisted on teaching in Matlab because they didn't know C/C++.8
-
Create a bug-free compiler for a Lang like c# but a little less overcomplicated and a lot faster. I don't believe a strictly typed and garbage collected language needs to be much less than half as fast as c++.2
-
I have waitsted whole my day searching a bug with memory allocation in C++, and still don't know how to fix it! That moment, when coding took me far less time than searching that fucking bug... I feel that i missed anything, but all looks ok
I HATE C++ WITH IT'S FUCKING POINTERS!!!!!25 -
Java was made to be easy, but leaks features even c++ has.
Type inference
Java: was is that.
C++: auto, easy18 -
"What are all the meanings of static in C and C++?"
Not a particularly good question but I think I'll always remember it because of how weirdly specific it is.
(And, anyone who wants to have a go at this WITHOUT Googling, feel free to.)13 -
Need a C++ partner..
I'm self taught developer and it's kinda hard to understand the code of your own.. since c++ is not an easy language to master I need partner whom I can easily discuss code and topics of c++. I'm in slack too and it's great community .. has people who always willing to help you out.. but the thing is it's really weird to ask simple question there again and again.. so i wanna have some partner to discuss C++ code easily..11 -
Why do I have 50 pdfs of books that teach me things that I will never be using?
Assembly tutorial? Why?
Java tutorial? Hm... okay. Perhaps.
Python tutorial x10? But I could use docs!
C? Shit!
C++? Ugh...
C#? Seriously?!
I think it's the time to wipe out all files with .pdf extention :/5 -
I literally have a discussion with somebody who says C# is better than PHP, even though the person in question never even touched PHP...
Like: if you prefer C# over PHP because you actually used BOTH and just prefer C# that's completely fine... but saying C# is flat out better just because you never used PHP?
It's like saying "Coca-Cola tastes better than Pepsi" even though you never had Pepsi (disclaimer: I like Coca-Cola better, but I don't really care that much about the minor difference)10 -
At college you learn like dozen of languages but end up getting job in Java/C#
Welcome to India 🤗🤗1 -
"You need five years of Java experience, with at least two years being Java 10, but if not at least seven years of C++17"1
-
Why does it feel like nobody uses D?
I love it. It combines the best bits of C++, Java, Ruby and even some Python. It still is C ABI and C++ ABI (ish) compatible. It can do everything you need it to. It's not limited like Java. It feels cleaner than C. I LOVE IT. But I don't understand why there's not much going on about it. Is it because it's not 100% stable yet? I don't know. AAAARGH7 -
Any good sites a self-educator can do some challenges? Heard of Kaggle and Hackerrank today, but haven't checked them out by now.
Would like to do some in Python and C/C++
Thanks in advance and by the way a really nice app with fun people here!4 -
I always wanted to learn more about C and learn the dark concepts in it. But whenever i search for it ( like.. " Advanced C concepts " ) or find a book , i end up finding dynamic memory allocation and using single dimensional pointers.. Maybe i am searching it all wrong .14
-
my C# dream:
if (Object.Property != null)
wouldn't produce an exception if the obejct is null but just equal to false5 -
Ok, so, serious question.
How the frick do you time a music game properly?
IN C#?
...Ok, maybe in C# it's just impossible, isn't it? Because I've done a metronome, it kinda works, but it's... wobbly... Because the thread stops every time the music effect is being played.
And also how do you make the notes...? ...I should design an entire editor for charts/maps, I guess, but how do I make that in C#?
So maybe I should try in Unity?
What do you think? I want to make a music game so bad ;–;8 -
Project Manager: "C++ has become much better for embedded now so we're gonna use it in the new project."
Me: "I didn't C that coming."
I know it's silly but I'm proud of it 🤓 -
Greatest language of all times is still C. It stood against the test of time. Any new language including Rust can hope to ba barely performant than C with too much overload.(I know most cpp abstractions if more efficient handwritten C equivalent but still).
Language is small, simple, elegant.17 -
I've been BSing my skillset for so long to myself, it's a veritable toolbox of mixed knowledge but no complete sets...
I wonder if it's too late for me to catch up or if I will ever actually complete any learning...
I am yet to finish learning
Html
CSS
PHP
Ruby
C#
ASM I can do i386 but not x86
VB
Pascal if you can believe
C
C++
Java
JS
Python
Powershell
Bash
My main skill is basically just remembering anything I do, including code syntax and example code fragments well enough to quote at people which makes me a lazy learner. -
First time posting. But I need an advice, I want to learn a programming language to get a better job. I have just the basics of C#, should I keep going with C# or go with F#? I heard a lot of good thing about F#. Thanks. You guys are awesome!6
-
when you start really learning C, not "hello world" C but Makefiles and autotools and libraries... is it me or is almost everything a C library and the rest of the languages are just wrappers for C libraries?1
-
I remember calling C#, C-Fis, because this was the only other name for this symbol than Hashtag and C Hashtag sounded wrong. But C Fis sounded wrong too and then I decided to just don’t say it’s name and if I have too say C Hashtag or Fis or whatever, which was definitely the worst option.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯9 -
Every time I read some script kiddy insult here I just think: "you propably did the same thing 10 years ago, not JS but PHP, but it was the same level of shitfuckery and the C/C++ Devs looked the same way at you you look at NodeJS developers now."1
-
I got my dev ducks in recently (React, C++ and C#) but brought them to work before I took pictures and now I can't show you guys because I am not allowed to take pictures at work.
Believe me, I have them.2 -
Gonna have 8 hours of exam in C without eating or have a little break. I love this but I'm gonna be so tired4
-
Once upon a time i have seen a block of code in a while (2 > 1) ... it was in C (or so i remember), but still...2
-
So frustrating to learn Swift when I already know objective-c. It's like I know what I'm doing, but really, I don't
-
This may be a dumb question, but are there any benefits in learning c instead of going straight to c++ for microcontrollers? I'm in my first ee semester and wondered, because we are learning c and java (next semester), but not c++2
-
C++99, C++03, C++11 and C++14
I love when your design finally ends up working, looks good and it's running as fast as Usain Bolt, but why the hell does OOP has to be so ugly and clunky in C++? Constructors and copy constructors designs are barf inducing. Yes I am trying to make it as readable and neat as possible but it still looks like shit overall. And related compiler errors are almost always retarded or unhelpful even though I'm used to it now.
I know you will tell me "why are you using those old ass versions?". Well unfortunately in embedded you are stuck with old crap until some envoy of the gods finally up the standards... or if I do it myself for a specific platform.1 -

I just need to deploy this contractors code... supposedly it ran on another system, but the endless Spring configs hate me... :(9 -
When I got my current role, I moved from a Desktop C# job to the Full Stack Web job I now have. I had C# experience and had dabbled in some spaghetti JS at home but was certainly no web developer. When I finished explaining my experience to a recruiter, he said:
"Oh, ok. So, I can see that you have some.good C# experience, but we need to improve your .net"
"Yes." -
I hated Java and was skeptical about C# in the beginning (I never code in C# during my early college years).
But when I tried coding in C# as a requirement for our internship this month, I was like "fuck Java (seriously), C# is the shit!"1 -
In an average day, how many different languages do you use?
For example my previous job was strictly C and Python.
My current job involves Python, C#, VB, PHP, SQL, HTML/CSS, JS. It's rare but quite possibly I could touch all these on a single day.11 -
Not really a recruitment experience, but when I was a uni student, my IT teacher told me face to face that "C++ is not object oriented"6
-
Errh... I'm sick as fuck, just the day when we should begin the C++ inheritance. I stay at home today so that's good but I would like to work on the C++ concepts, I don't want to be late...
Anyway, I can do the exercises at home but like I said, I'm sick as fuck so, I don't know what I should do : rest or work?1 -
I still wonder which one is better to fully learn/understand. I know to code something in both, I know about the different way of how they handle memory and I know about some of their use-cases, but then again... this stupid question still pops out:
C or C++ and why?2 -
A bit confused
I have a code and it is giving different answers in different language and compilers
the code is
Int a=4
Int b = ++a + a++ + --a
Please ignore the syntactical errors
But this logic give different answers in different compiler and language like in
C(turbo c++ compiler) it gives 12
C(gcc)- 16
Java- 15
Python- 12
Can anybody explain the logic behind this...10 -
C++ overloaded operators are so cringe. They think they're being so clever with their pipes and the path concatenation being a "/" character but you're just making one of the most ugly languages on the market even uglier. Fuck C++ and its operator overloading fetish.16
-
You can find so many tutorials, learning paths for C#, C++, python, angular, jss, java, etc.
But literally none for batch file programming (if that's even what it's called) so little documentation on cmd.exe and writing .bat files :'(
Can someone please please help?
Just point me in the right direction?
inb4 google it17 -
I speak c# like I speak Spanish. It works and I get by, but it ain't pretty.
(currently living in Mexico)6 -
I love C and C++ but their dependency management stuck, there’s a package manager for them which offers a nice experience comparable to Go or Rust?4
-
When you changed our SDK folders from your tiny C:\ to your big D:\ but the IDE still downloads huge updates on C:\ first, and you get "not enough disk space" errors1

White house urges Developers to move away from C/C++
I'm not sure what to think about it yet, but on the surface level, i think that makes sense.

What the fuck is this piece of shit called Ubuntu? I was writing an automation tool on my local PC (ArchLinux) in c++ 17 (c++1z or whatever). Finished it today. Working and compiling so everything is fine. Went to my server, git clone, make.
Okay some errors because I havent installed my networking libs yet. So I installed them.
Make.
Error because I was using a c++ feature only available in c++ 17. But wtf. I told g++ I wanted to compile with c++ 17 support. I mean... On arch it compiled fine. On centOS it at least told me that it doesn't know c++1z (it was some really old centOS). BUT JUST TELLING ME ITS BECAUSE I SUCK AT PROGRAMMING?? THAT IS SO NOT OKAY. MY CODE IS LEGIT ISO C++ 17. FUCK UBUNTU. Installing Arch on my server now because I can't handle this shit anymore...16 -
My Linkedin feed is bombarded with .NET and C++ jobs.
I don't like C# and don't know C++.
I understand the demand for C++ but not .NET.
Every time I use C# or Powershell I feel weird and handicapped by Microstuff's prison.
Java, Python,Node.js and bash scripting feel so much better. Why there is such a demand for .NET devs?7 -
If you ever try to learn C++, give C Primer Plus 6th edition book a try. This is one of the best books that are prepared to teach, not tell about C++.
I tried Bjarne's boooks, but damn they are hard to understand, with badly formatted non-monnospace font code examples and terrible technique to teach. -
In your opinion, should little projects for IT enterprises be developed in C#?
Because in my eyes, The .NET Framework should not be used for innovation - related projects.
It has many qualities like you can do almost anything with it but it's heavy, difficult to adapt and you're really dependent to what Microsoft added in.12 -
C# :
Welcome to C#, as it is a very powerfull and typed language you will never have issues with Equals and "==".
Also C# : (image)
Edit : It's actually wrking as expected, but I would';ve guessed that "==" would wotk for basic types11 -
Well this is interesting: just stumbled upon Microsoft's Q#, a quantum computing language, complete with compiler and sim.
It has a similar symtax to C# but is slightly different, and it also depends on C# for doing something with the computed bits.1 -
Learning C/C++ started to become fun, mainly because I've managed to do seemingly cursed stuff lately.
For example, today, I learned you could totally call a class member function using a type-matching nullptr variable. The 'this' variable is so null that it will crash as soon as the program hits 'this', though, but the control flow does go into the function.
It's not *that* cursed once you learn the behind-the-scene stuff, but that kind of weird s#!+ is funny, even amusing for me, who've mained languages other than C/C++.11 -
so i need a utility written in C because MS-DOS but i can't figure out how MS-DOS APIs work and there's no docs available so if anyone has used Borland C i'd be grateful if you could help me out on how the hell anything works7
-
switching from C# / managed C++ to pure C++ in the new project feels like being relocated to an outpost in the wild west.
now i have to think about so many things the C# compiler would just have cared for, and all this hassle before i can actually address the problems that i want to solve. already ran into some weird memory overflows. i'm actually happy to learn something new, but it still feels really inefficient.3 -
Yo, remember when @Alice parodied the millenial 404 message? It was hilarious, but now it's gone :c
Has anyone saved it by any chance? I don't want this to be lost forever, it was too good :c3 -
I just found out, there is a GCC flag that prevents you from using integers in a bool context in C.
Like wtf?!
Not only is this the original "bool" implementation of C, but it's also a widespread concept for use in NULL checks and the likes.5 -
Guys does any of you know good first c++ project. I have a lot of experience with java and python so I am not new to programming, but I want to get proficient in C++ because I am soon starting a job which all lower level programming.7
-
For me I think it was objective C. Didn't went far into it but the way to use it is so complex compared to swift1
-
I'm at a bit of a loose end here, I'll do my best to explain and I hope it all makes sense.
I'm trying to find a way to wrap a C++ Console App in a C# Class so I can use the C++ App as a library within the C# app rather than triggering the C++ exe and providing a command to it.
The reason why I wish to do it this way is for maintainability, so I can make changes to the C++ app without affecting the C# App.
I've been looking at tutorials and stack overflow to see if's its possible, but for someone with learning difficulties, I'm struggling to find the right path to take as I'm seeing conflicting info.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks in advance5 -
C would say to other languages:
"I am imperative
not functional
nor object oriented but
I am faster than you"2 -
Any opions/experience with Lua? Im using this language right now in my internship. Its suprisingly easy, but not as popular as javascript or c#.8
-
The most important difference between C and C++: in C you can make errors, but in C++ you can also inherit them.😐1
-
C#: The fact that T[,] (multi dimensional arrays) implement IEnumerable, but not IEnumerable<T>.
But one dimensional arrays do.
But you can still foreach over them.
What in the actual hell?
Now I have to write something ugly like
var bruh = values.Cast<float>();22 -
Any VB.Net developers found a job as C# dev.
Do you count your experience for .net as a whole? I feel if you know .net it's not a major difference between vb.net and c# it's just the syntax difference but I'm hesitant to apply for C# jobs based on my experience in vb.net. Any one with switch experience?20 -
Spent a good part of a year developing some complex software in C for my employer only to find our environment supports C++; all I had to do was drop in a handy dandy "extern c". But why...
-
Converting all my side projects from C# .Net Framework to C# .Net Core (or Node.js) is a rewarding but long process.7
-
There are tons of jobs with c# in my area but I am a Java/python dev. Currently working on a small web application in Django. Should I take time to learn C# and the .net framework while doing my other project? If yes to learning C#, should I develop in windows or just use monoDevelop in the linux (ubuntu) os I am currently using?5

Hey developers, am I allowed to make use of the pass-by-reference feature of C/C++ during a coding interview( given I am using C/C++ as my main language )?
I basically used python in my interviews, but this time I decided to go with C/C++.
now,
for those who gonna say "WRONG CATEGORY": most of you check rant rather than questions.
for those who gonna say "BUT YOUR NAME SUGGEST THAT YOU HATE C": bloody educate yourself.10 -
Looking into Kotlin, and it seems pretty cool, but I just can't get over how unnatural and annoying the mapOf syntax is.
In JavaScript: const obj = { a: 1, b: { c: 3, d: 4 } }
In Kotlin: val obj = mapOf("a" to 1, "b" to mapOf("c" to 3, "d" to 4))5 -
Hey devrant,
Is ASP.NET Core a good web framework to start with. I have no experience with backend web development but I know some C#2 -
I want to try some Android Development. I already have basic understanding of both C# and Java. C# even a little bit more. But the language is not the problem.
I just can not decide wether I should use Xamarin or do native development using Android Studio.
What would you suggest me, guys? :-)7 -
Friend of mine has some C++ he wrote and wants to run it in a web area, so he can demo it and output the results to a webpage. He wants to stick to using the C++ and avoid rewriting it in Python (my suggestion).
Any advice on how he could go about it? I’ve heard about a C compiler that could run in a web area, but not sure if they are any good..?4 -
[New Collab]
Well it may be the only learning collab, I didn't read everything. But I started a Entity Component System library to learn some stuff like metaprogramming : https://devrant.io/collabs/826092/...
And I'll be really happy if some people could give me some advices / suggestions about generic C++ libraries and this code :D
I love you <3 -
Finally enrolled in a c# programming course!
I've got somewhat of a knowledge in html and css and was wondering for a long time if I should go Javascript or Php, but got an advice that c# will give me a broader understanding of programming.
Can't wait to learn! :) -
What baffles me is how despite being on version 3 of Swift, Apple still havent updated Xcodes refactoring tools to support it. All I want to do is rename a variable or function but oh no. "Xcode can only refactor C or Objective-C code". Yet they are plowing on with new features in other areas like the interface builder but completely ignoring the tools that make IDEs useful.

questions I want to ask at work but I am too afriad to:
aren't we supposed to use .hpp for C++ headers instead of .h?1 -
I know that there is no bad programming languages.
But there are one exception.
Swift 3.
You can't use c styled code! Why????
Wtf???
Do you have anything against C?
If you do, why?1 -
Recently i finished college and got a job as an ASP.NET dev in a company.
The company uses ASP.NET, ASP.NET Core and angular.
I've worked with flask, express and PHP but very new to C# and .NET.
I've learned C# but I'm having hard time understanding ASP.NET.
The documentation seems very hard for me.
Could someone please suggest some resources for asp.net and .net core6 -
Proof i typically underestimate my own self: I just remembered building a browser In Visual Basic in middle school, in a day at my friends house…. How the hell did I do that?? I recognize some of the syntax, but i don’t remember Visual Basic… but THATS how I know it looks like C… AND I DONT KNOW C! so wtf!14

Company A (mine) is building a site for company B, company B employs company C to manage their inventory database, company C exports inventory as JSON to company A, company C says, this field (SKUs) will be an object (skus = {...}) when it only has 1 value, but an array (skus = [{}, {}, ...]) when there are multiple SKUs, company A (me) tells company B to tell company C to ensure it's always an array.... company B is scared of company C and company A (me) is always cleaning up company C's shit6

C++ or Python for coding interviews?
I used to do a lot of developments in Python and JS/TS. But now I have been doing a lot of back-end stuff in Golang at work (1+ year) and C++ for some of my side projects. So when I started grinding leetcode, I used C++ all the way.
Today this question struck me and I keep thinking if I should continue with C++ or use Python, which will help me focus more on the question than the language.5 -
Okay I've commented on multiple people's post already but I've decided to write a rant on it.
GOD I hate C++. For our software architecture minor we have to develop a game with only C++ and SDL and it's been one big freaking nightmare.Where almost every freaking language I've worked with has a proper way to add third party libraries most of them in C++ don't even fucking work after spending half a day. I know a lot of you guys love programming in C++, but it's been the language I've been struggling the most with in four years of university. Unbelievable. Fuck it's freaking pointers and all it's bullshit.3 -
Should I learn C# or Java?
There are many topics over the internet but a direct opinion from you guys would be appreciated.
I would also know, what does C# have in common with asp.NET and web application development? It isn't clear to me
Thanks18 -
Technical Interview Ranters:
C++ is not my strong language. Maybe I can hack the 98 version but I know little of the 2011, 2014, and 2017 versions. With my nine years of experience would you recommend a hit to a junior for C++ and Java or just keep looking for a senior for C#/SQL?2 -
C++ development experience is absolute shit on Windows
Like using any IDE but VS (which is also shit cuz Micro$oft) to write anything in C++ is just absolute shit.9 -
I've been in the industry (developer for Finance, backend, quant stuff) for 5 years, and I was thinking to starting looking for a remote developer position in a couple of years.
Do you have any advice? Shall I start studying something? I'm proficient with C++, python and C#, but mainly for numerical algorithms, but I'm sure I can learn other stuff.6 -
I've heard "someone" saying, that typescript and c# are somewhat similar. Now I've never worked with c#, but I still doubt it. What do you, human of devRant, think?8
-
So I have heard some people talk about it and I guess I can't google the right words but what do I do when building c across platforms that may have the header files in different locations without needing to actually change the c code?2
-
Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't at some point C++ add the linked list to its standard library? If so when was that?4
-
Impulsive saving. I just cut a portion of newly written code (not committed), saved the file as a reflex, and accidentally closed emacs instead of switching window.
The environment should have had the cut in its clipboard, but nope. I should have a history of autosaves, but that doesn't seem to work as I expected.
Binding C-x C-c to null again :(
I have work to do on my .emacs.3 -
My unidirectional type-c cable. Essentially is a Type C to Type A-female adapter with a Type A to Type C cable plugged in, but with the plugs bypassed with a soldered joint.
Useful for devices that have Type C but refuse to implement protocols, just using 5v bus. They only work with Type A to Type C cables. Usually, they’re vapes and other low-cost devices.
I made this cable to charge my heated tobacco device. Now, since I quit smoking, I don’t need it anymore, but I’ll keep it nonetheless because it’s kinda neat.1 -
Start with C as first real programming language. It might have a higher entrance barrier but in future you'll blaze through new languages with ease4

Can I build apps in Android devices using only C/C++ ? I mean is possible? I heard it is, but how that can be achieved? Can someone explain!12

For some reason when creating my account i wrote PetarPeychev as username but got Petarpeychev somehow. Then I tried changing the capitalization but it didn't work cuz apparently the name is already taken (by myself?). So I thought about doing the ole' c=a; a=b; b=c; and now I know about the 6 month restriction...

the letter C, what a chump of a letter. we have K and S, so why need C? its useful for CH words of course, but used as S or K is redundant and makes us look dumber. Lets rid ourselves of such unnesessary hogwash and say fuk letter C.
how would one pronounse the word cicc? siks? kiks? sisk? kiss? or something im unaware of, and what would be definition if new word?22 -
Hey guys, gameDev here, wanting to branch out to software development in my spare time. Im using C# and Visual Studio, and rarely C++.
I want to make some software in c# or C++ with a GUI, more than just CMDs. Im trying to program a project manager or something else but dont know how. Need some tips!9 -
Didn't I already ask if rust at least doesn't bomb quietly like a program written in c does when unmanaged?
You know I had a significant learning curve thrown my way having to try to debug c/c++ code.
I can mostly read it but I've barely written anything in it
Have wrapped it 😀2 -
If there are 1000 a , 2000 b , 3000 c in a program, how will you declare them in C ??? Simple but high level aptitude question. Lets see who answers it right.32

C++ is the building blocks for many high-level programming languages, and since 1984 its first appearance in the markets the C++ core committee developers have introduced its 4 new versions which are C++03 (ISO/IEC 14882:2003 second edition), C++11 (third edition), C++14 (fourth edition) and C++17 is the fifth edition. With each new version, developers introduced new features, libraries and APIs in it.
C++ introduced as the extension of C programming language which made C++ as a compiled programming language, which means the developer required a C++ compiler to translate the C++ code to its equivalent machine or byte language, so the Operating system of the computer can execute the program.
There are various C++ compilers in the market and most of them are open source and free to use, however conventionally when we say C++ compiler, we basically talk about GCC which stands for GNU Compiler Collection.
What is GCC?
GCC stands for GNU Compiler Collection, and it is a collection of programming compilers which induce C, C++, Objective-C, Fortran, and some versions of Java. The first version of GCC introduced in 1987 and it was also known as GNU C compiler which became the standard compiler for C programming language, in that same year GCC also provided Compiler support for the C++ programming language.
Now GCC has various versions and each version give specific support for C++ versions, by now if we look at all the versions of GCC, we have a stable GCC for every version of C++, but there are some exceptions with C++11.
C++11:
C++11 introduced as the 2nd update version of C++, it suffixes 11 because it released in 2011 or because on August 12, 2011, ISO gives official approval to it. Formally C++11 known as C++0X because developers were expecting the new update released in 2010, but with its release in 2011, the core committee developer of C++ changed its name by C++0X to C++11.
C++ 11 replaced the old version of C++03, and it also brings many new features for the C++ developers. The main aim of designing C++11 to stabilize and maintain the backward compatibility of new C++ version with the C+98 and C programming language and that’s become the main reason why core committee developers only introduced new features in the old standard library rather than extending the core language.
GCC does not give Full Support to C++11:
GCC version GCC 4.8.1 purpose the first feature-complete implementation of the C++11 standard, however, the 4.8 and 4.7 does not give the full support for the C++11. The current version of GCC provides the major support for all the standard features of C++11 but if you are using the GCC 4.8 or 4.7 versions then your GCC only provide you with the experimental support for the C++11.
To use the Experimental support of GCC you need to enable it first before you compile or run you C++ 11 version code.
use code std=c++11 or -std=gnu++11 to enable the experimental support for C++11.16 -
Self learned. I was introduced to programming quite early courtesy my dad who pushed me to use Linux. At first I learned basics, enough to tinker with stuff. Then I met python. It changed my world. Now I know C, C++, JS, PHP, Obj-C fluent enough and am working on others. But python will always have a sweet spot in my heart. Also, I think python 3 is a good improvement over 2. Not perfect. But good enough and it still has a future.

I am starting to study next month and I will have to code in C, but I currently only know Java, C# and some python. Do you need anything coded on C or an open source project to contribute to so I have motivation to actually do something?1 -
Howdy yall,
I'm interested in developing a productivity app for windows, but I have no idea where to get started. Do you have any suggestions for frameworks/tutorials to get started with? I'd prefer to use C# instead of C++, but if necessary I'll do either.
Thanks for the suggestions
P.S. It'll also be the first project I actually use version control for. Fun stuff6 -
Am just looking to buy my first printed book for C#!
Till yet I was learning C# from internet resources like video tutorials and Pdf books.
But now am going to buy a printed book so that I can carry that with me and can read on the go.
So can you please guys suggest me any c# book to buy.
I decided to buy the C# complete reference. But still I need some suggestions from you all.4 -
I want to switch from Window$ on my laptop to Linux of some kind and I need some c/c++ IDE. I thought about CLion but I want some of your's recommendations.5

Junior Dev: Today I'm porting my (TDD'd) C++ code to C# but having loads of issues.
Me: You should throw away the code, port the tests across and write the code again.
Junior Dev: I think I'll just keep doing what I'm doing.
Me: *triple face plant* -
I’ve always wrote my own class to sql methods, but I used the Table Adapter in C# and I don’t think I will go back.2

Swift versioning is a really shitty bit. But not as bad the unreadable mashed together bastardized horseshit that is objective-c

Hello everyone!
I am CS student. So I just wanted to ask are there any tips or suggestions you would like to give me about skill sets or anything other to get place in MNC after my engineering is completed?
Right now my skill includes C, C++ and C#. 🙂🙂. And also know JAVA but not much. 😬3 -
Guys it's stupid but how do you get motivated for coding ? I'm actually learning C++, it's my first programming language but it's hard to continue, I love coding and making games but I'm a real newbie and I'm 90% of the time completely lost, I've made 1 shitty game but it's from a tutorial, and for c++ I'm still stuck with overloaded operator.
I'm sorry for my awful english but it's not my mother tongue. Do you have something advices ? For example stopping completely playing videogame ? Thx ;)6 -
Decided to learn C# after learning C, its a goddamn nightmare I get that C# like C++ wants to abstract and provide supposedly more easier/shorter ways to write Code but honestly I abhor both languages.
Are there any true alternatives that dont focus too much on oop? or arent bloated to hell?4 -
The one thing I need, a "LATIN SMALL LETTER REVERSED C WITH DIAERESIS" doesn't seem to exist but "LATIN SMALL LETTER C WITH DIAERESIS" the one thing that I don't need, does D:
Like there's a god dang sideways u with an umlaut (or diaeresis I guess) but not a reversed c̈? pls4 -
I am actually programming in C# and i learned programming with this language, but my problem is that visual c# have mandy dependencies and i need a language which run on a windows 7 as on a windows 10 machine but with no dependencies to any DotNet-Framework oder any special DLL's is there a language for this?13

If Company A owns company B & C. And profits from Company B were used in the incorporation and development of Company C.
Can company C list company B as a sponsor and partner along with the other sponsors? Or will that be automatically established if they're under the same parent company?
company B and C are listed and registered as independent companies and provide different services but both provide internet services.1 -
What programming language do you guys recommend to learn?
Currently, I know Java, PHP and JS but I want to try something else...
I was thinking maybe C, C++ or C#, opinions? Also, many people seem to praise Python as the new god of programming languages which will solve all of our problems, but until now I ran into nothing but problems really with literally every python-application I have used (mostly incompatibility between certain packages which actually were the required version, I found it very annoying to fix every time). Is that just me or does that happen more often?16 -
Any recommendations for a C/C++ IDE for Linux.
I really like PyCharm and IntelliJ for python and java but can't afford to splash out on CLion for C++.
Eclipse is completely out, I have too much of that at work and it is a total pain.
My current solution would be vim and clang but I'd like something more IDE like.10 -
Okay so I want other opinions. So I've been studying for C++ competition and I don't know how to keep learning the language.. for python I just kept finding projects to do or picked a module to learn. But with C++ I was gonna work on the <random> and <string> libraries but after that I have no clue :/13

I know this is too late to ask this question, but am a final year computer science student, average in all core subjects with 0 knowledge of web development (except a few html tags, but not enough to make a wikipedia like website) or other professional streams.
I know java and python enough to make oop classes and understand code written in them.
Should i
A)study more about web dev/ml-ai/testing/other "professional" stuff
B) learn more and strengthen my core subjects , like operating system, algorithms, data structures, etc or
C) learn another core language like C/c++/assembly?24 -
In C# I want to use 'using' on any damn temporary object I please, but it only works with objects that implement idisposable..6

At the beginning of a master course at my university the students need to do a little task to ensure they know fundamentals about programming. 70% fails the test. They had no Internet access but a reference card for c, c++, Java & python. Is this really that hard?16

Relatively new web developer here. I want to delve into C# for use in Unity and other projects, but upon doing quite a bit of googling I can't find any free/well documented C# tutorials/lessons online. Does anyone know where I could go to learn? Thank you!10

Can anybody explain why in C# when using string.Format("{0:C}", myNumber);
results in a string with special characters used for spacing instead of the normal space character.
This caused a issues in the PDF I was generating and I'm wondering why the special characters.4 -
Best way to learn C? Might be my ADHD brain,but I'd love to try learning C again. I know K&R is still pretty good,but what are some other books,or good ways to learn C? I'll be using a standard Linux system with gcc so nothing really special. Also Correct me if I'm wrong,but GCC supports later C standards C99,etc except for floating points right?3

Dabbled in primary school on Microsoft Front Page, but actually programming would have been the WoW private server scene. Started on C++, got confused, tried LUA, loved it, came back to C++ was still confused but could get things done. And then the story goes on and on.1

I'm pretty anti-apple but it's clear that the 3.5mm jack and the standard USB port is going to go. Other manufacturers will be using only type C very very soon. BT > 3.5mm and everything will use type C USB.6

Not a function but X macros in C. Using them makes the code significantly more manageable and cleaner

A && (B || C)
Is there any way to get rid of the parenthesis?
I know how to remove the OR but the parenthesis are still there:
A && !(!B && !C)15 -
Not a rant, but just curious, comment which you like more, Java, or C++. (And your favorite editor/IDE for the hell of it)7

Comment 👇 #pythonprogramming vs #cprogramminglanguage
Python is fresh and demanded technology in the market but C is great for building a strong foundation. The essence of programming comes from thinking 🤔 and languages are just a medium.
If #python is a big giant means not C is outdated.10 -
Making my first game in Unreal, i see how blueprints could be useful. I don't like them though. I heard you can use c# in unreal but im only finding stuff for c++?3

Who wants to collab with me for hashcode ?
I don't mind working with c , python , c++ , js , Java and similar languages I guess.

Sort "insert file name here" | uniq -c outputs the same file in a bash script but in a command it works. Any ideas?6

Be me, a ret***
Already 3 months in a new position. (check my previous rant)
Storm have passed for a while but another storm is brewing.
C levels are having disagreement with each other.
Caught in the crossfire as one the of C's hire.
Have some chit chats with both side of C, each telling different stories.
C#1 told me there was a demand from C#2 to force tech guys (not defined who or how many) to resigns.
C#2 told me there is no plan to close the whole tech team. But there's a distrust brewing in the tech team especially on the C#1
Be me, C#1 hire...
Me telling them IDK what their real intentions are but there's a high probability for my reputation to be tarnished on the job Market.
I've always had good review amongst peers and confident I did and do a satisfactory job for my previous employer.
Be me:
Resorted to flexing my connection to high ranking (think of C suites) reference who I've worked and have good relations with.
Connected them to my C#2.
Dunno how the C#2 thinks of me and what my value to C#2 are.
Don't know what the future hold for me.
Tried doing one interview but topics of my reputation comes up because of me jumping to executive position without having "Manager" ever in my resume.
Got a bit too defensive on that and it might eff up my chance to have a backup ready in case I urgently need to jump ship.
Depression and impostor syndrome hits like a truck every day.2 -
Python - I am cool, I fuck well
C++ - I am old, but I fuck fast. Get lost kid.
Python runtime sucks man !7 -
I JUST WANT TO FUCKING EXCLUDE A DIRECTORY....
I run the code cleaner tool, OH CHRIST it's trying to sanitise the automatically generated code, I don't want this.
I try to exclude... takes ages to work out that while specifying the dirs is absolute you can only exclude relative but from what? I want to block a/b but not a/c/b but no it's all you can only block all b b it a/b, b/b, c/b, c/b, a/c/b, etc.
I google for other solutions, nothing but trash, docs a trash, here's some examples but we don't tell you the actual behaviour. All I want is to get everything in /home/hilldog/emails but not /home/hilldog/emails/topsekret how hard can it be?
I use the source but what's this, BeefJerkyIteratorIteratorBananaSpliterator all over the shop how much convolution and LOC does it take to provide a basic find facility?
Screw this...
$finder->in(explode("\n",trim(exec('find '.escape_args(...$good).' -type d ' . implode('
-o ', prefix('\! -wholename', escape_args(..$bad))) . ' -etc | grep -vETC \'pretty_patterns\''))))3 -
I want to learn c# to build a mobile app with xamarin and a website with asp.net core. I have some programing experience and have build some meh apps. What should I use
Head First C#, 4th Edition
C# 9 and .NET 5 - Modern Cross-Platform Development - Fifth Edition
C# Fundamentals by Scott Allen on Pluralsight
C# 9 and .NET 5 - Modern Cross-Platform Development - Fifth Edition teaches what I want to learn but the Xamarin section seems a bit short. C# Fundamentals by Scott Allen on Pluralsight was recommended a lot to beginners online and I can always learn Xamarin from Microsoft Learn12 -
Does anyone have any good crash courses in C++? I'm not looking to learn it to program in it, just to be able to read it. I want to use Qt in Python, but much of the documentation is missing or incomplete, so I'd like to be able to use the original C++ instead, but I can't understand have of the esoteric use of symbols.1

Look, C++, I love you and all, but I don't want to reboot my computer every time I mess something up.1
