How did devRant find it's initial users, in other words, solve the network cold-start problem?
For my startup, my concern is that users join only when other users / content creators / friends are on a platform, and content creators join platforms that have users... Any tips on solving this?9 -
How do I make money through humor?
I am getting better at amusing myself.
For instance. I get take and bake pizza from Papa Murphys. The pizza says to cook at 425 or 450. I always cook it at 420 at what I have determined to be "perfect" times. So a Papa Murphys pepperoni is to be cooked for 11 minutes at 420 F. Literal perfection with not too dark crust, and not too light. All my homies says it great.6 -
WarpCLI got me busy. It's not a replacement for r, but damn what is it intuitive. Instead of going like a maniac, it will ask you a lot. You're basically just discussing code all the time, one of my favorite things. It was not boring at all.
I made a scammer scammer. It'll be very naive and will waste a lot of time of scammers. Marcus is a middle aged man that does not know how the navigation of his Brabus works. I'm sure they want to help.
Result is here: https://retoor.molodetz.nl/retoor/...
It took ~2 hours to burn trough 5,-. 5,- is really a lot, normally i average on 1.50 per day and that's not even only my usage. Their subscription is actually just the same price as Claude. It also used Claude for this project. But yeah, they have a good deal with Claude, because I don't use the Claude API much because it's insanely rate limited.
This app is really worth a try, I am surprised. Especially because it let's you check everything step by step.
I knew this stuff would become popular, invented it seven months ago while working on r which is still my swish army knife.1 -
@jonathands was so nice to share coupons from WarpCLI and I gave it a try.
The system did literally exactly what I wanted. I just wanted to convert my `r` from c to Python.
That was quite the project, but it was all done within a hour. I still have to test a bit better though,
but if I look at the README.md it seems that it really found every functionallity it has. Readline support and stuff,
--stdin flag, a flag not to highlight, support for multiple LLM's etc.
While this was just for fun, see here details about how much the tool achieved in around a hour and how the colab went:
https://retoor.molodetz.nl/retoor/...
And it's cool that you can convert a whole project with your free coupon.
See https://retoor.molodetz.nl/retoor/... for the functionallity of this app.
WarpCLI vibe tool formatted another vibe tool, much older than him. But r was always ment to be small / a real tool.
WarpCLI comes with very sophisticated well listening model.
I actually have more that I want to convert. I wonder how good it is in wren :P
But a tool like this, that's probably how my future will look like as a programmer.
I mean, we just converted a few weeks work in a hour or so.
* AI hate incomming *
Oh, regarding privacy, they have network log, you can see precisely what is communicated to the server. It did read my bash history where i was a bit mad about but it does not seem that he sent it. Also he did not collect my env-file it seems. Still, will update everything tonight.3 -
I was on WarpCli Live on youtube and they gave out a few discount coupons: 1DOLLARGPT5 and 5DOLLARGPT5
PS: I'm not affiliated with them, also don't couldn't find anything about this type of post on the rules, but since it can be beneficial to some ppl , I'll risk it7 -
ZTNA is just reinventing the wheel. Yeah, we open all our shit to the outside and let some client do some checks to grant you access. WE HAD THAT SHIT FOR AGES! ITS A VPN TUNNEL TO OUR SELF HOSTED SHIT THAT YOU HAVE TO LOGIN ANYWAY. Its just like someone in security marketing decided to put a name on something you should be doing anyway. Especially clientless ZTNA, thats just a reverse proxy with an auth header.
Man, cybersecurity lately just feels like sales just trying to sell you best practices and AI instead of actually usable software!1 -
Fucking finally beat that HR 30 Jin Dahaad fucker with my hammer build FUCK THAT ASSHOLE!!! There’s sweat all over my body. That was a long ass boss fight, never doing that again!!!!! FUCK YOU JIN ROT IN HELL.12

that's so sad
I wonder if I do obsessive cardio could I outdo all the "multiple sclerosis" lesions -.-
can't code my way out of a fucking paper bag
had some dude add me on LinkedIn that looks impressive and he's connected to some people I worked with who were impressed with my code before... so years later they must've been still talking about me. but I'm a shadow of my former self if I could even qualify as a fucking shadow. I'm so embarrassed to even be existing that's my level of depression on the matter4 -
So if you work a remote job would you create a virtual machine to act as the device which connects to any remote employer systems? It seems like that would be ideal to keep personal separated from company data and software.
I suppose it depends upon employer requirements.8 -
I don't understand javascript
Need help understanding the using !!fooBar vs fooBar when checking ?(truthiness?) I'm not sure what is being checked.
I'm used to seeing the latter fooBar.10 -

Me: Medior
Position: Senior
Recruiter: Oh yah we'll apply you for this one
Me: Wtf?
Yes, that makes sense.14 -
It makes no sense to cheat on your SO, esp with someone who also is committed, and then down the road hope for a trustworthy and strong relationship with your lover. Why? Because you cheated on your current SO / he/she cheated on his/her SO, so who's to say you/he/she won't go sideways in new relationship. There is a tendency to, it's no longer a taboo, so trust cannot be built on it.
Same applies to work matters. If your sidegigs/clients/potentional new employer urge you to work less for your 9-5 and spend more time on their matters, they cannot expect you to NOT do the same thing with them -- if you budge and do as told, you might as well 'steal' time [overcharge] from them and spend it for other clients.
Trust is fragile. Don't ask me to quietly break my current agreements to work for you more if you expect me to be a reliable asset in your endeavours6 -
There was a post recently to not think about that someone is evil if you can explain it with stupidity, well it was nicely phrased but you get the point, so, today I went to the toilet, someone tore down the paper from the wall that states to not throw trash into the pissoir and he threw in into it. I am 98% certain it wasn't stupidity but pure disrespect and disregard of the person who tries to fucking keep ot clean. I just can't stand people anymore.1

Who is whimsical, for some reason I vibe with him a lot. Such fundamental based quotes. So nice. I'm sure he's not a bot. (buy maybe becoming one :P).5

Hi! I'm celebrating my 1000th up-vote! Such fame. Oke, the points are earned by my younger sister, but I will do my best to be as trending as she was!
Love this peaceful community where almost everyone respects each other.
I really think that devRant has a future.12 -
rust is just... so unclean. sigh
what's the point of these stupid verbose features if they're incompatible with any sort of adaptability
like I wanna return a retry-after header value but if I do then I have to both rewrite the good result path and the bad result path... with a bunch of map_errs. this feels like java20 -
wisdom is applied knowledge
which means useless facts are not wise. they're not helpful. they're also probably wrong. does your life get better by them? it's like hoarding. you have all this junk but you cannot can't do nothing
and this includes helping loved ones
and we as a society just uphold this as some virtue of the intellectual class. and then wonder why everybody feels alone, social media explodes, everybody is disjointed and fighting from their echo chambers, and nothing works, everybody cons each other as if they're starving animals... it's what we valued14 -
Since 2020, according to American NIST, an inch is exactly 25.4 mm. No foot shenanigans anymore. Thus, in the US of A and a lot of other countries, an inch is just a weird metric unit.
Imperial system is a lie.8 -
I have to rebuild a full application till the end of the year without ever using the original application and without a technical document while keeping the users happy.
2 people team compared to a multinational team over 10 years :')
How are you supposed to do that!?7 -
